Exit + Save
MB does not respond CTRL+ALT+DEL or POWER BUTTON or RESET BUTTON
CPU fan just spins (black screen)
**Must unplug and replug power cord**
To Access BIOS or to get to INSERT SYSTEM DISK

Unplugged Power Cord

NEW AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ BE
NEW GA-MA78G-DS3H v1.0

**Antec Case screws completely cover MB mounting holes (HEX w/Philip)**
**some people stated grounding issue w/ MB to Case**

Corsair RAM is supported w/ MB (I called Corsair)

AMD CPU is listed on Gigabyte Support List (I called Gigabyte)

System temp 37c
CPU temp 42c
CPU fan 2020rpm

PSU Antec 430w and 380w (Multimeter Reading)

Yellow and Black 12.07v

Anyone having same issue w/ this MB ?

Anyone running MB 100% w/o problems ?

Thanks

Do you have a little speaker you can hook to the mobo to read beep codes?

1 short: System boots successfully
2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error
1 long, 2 short: Monitor or graphics card error
1 long, 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long, 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly
Continuous short beeps: Power error

Try one stick at 5-5-5-1.8v (which is JEDEC standard). If that doesn't work try 4-4-4-12 2.1v.

I guess Corsair support would know but the motherboard is not listed on thier RAM Configurator for that memory.

Nor is it listed under the motherboard QVL list for memory by Gigabyte.

Let us know how it goes - it's a nice looking mobo that folks may be interested in ...

Thanks for your quick response !

You are very smart to think of speaker hookup to MB !

Antec Solo Case has no speaker

I will try to borrow one.

For some reason Corsair has not updated "Configurator" yet.....

Is setting DDR2 667 underclocking ram That runs at DDR2 800 ?

I did try testing RAM 5-5-5-18 1.8v AND 4-4-4-12 2.1v

**Same PROBLEM almost every time**

I also installed NEW ** F4 ** BIOS

Does your rig cold boot?
Is OS installed?
Is case wired to mobo?
Is bios set to no KB?
Does bios find HDD?

What IS working? Anything?

Your fan will spin forever until OS boots and detects acpi/powr mgmt/etc.

If all this is ok - possibly psu is toast??? check connex!

I had a similar issue (GA-MA78G-DS3H, rev 1.0, Athlon X2 4800+). Modifications of the BIOS, then exiting after saving changes, resulted in POST failure (no video, spinning fans). Each time this happened, I had to clear the CMOS to get the system to POST again and get into the BIOS.

On the other hand, after I finally flashed to F3 BIOS, the issues went away.

From your latest update, I presume you do get a video signal and are able to view the BIOS screen initially? But after leaving the BIOS, then it fails to reboot properly?

Hi guys,
I have exactly same set up as OP except the memory. I already flashed the BIOS to F4 version. The momory is Crucial Ballistix DDR2 at 4-4-4-12, 2.2V. I changed the memory voltage to 2.2V and the auto timings seems OK, it reads 4-4-4-12 so I don't have to set it up myself. But STILL I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM as stated by OP. And everything I start the computer, I almost have to button power off twice and it boots normally. Plus, the reset botton doesn't work and if I put restart, it will just turn off....really weird problem....Any more comments? Thanks!

Does your rig cold boot?
YES - RAN PRIME95 12+ HOURS OK IN XP
SHUTDOWN XP SOMETIMES RESETS BOX....

Is OS installed?
XP PRO SP3

Is case wired to mobo?
MB IS OUT OF CASE ON STATIC BAG
DID INSTALL IN CASE SAME PROBLEM OCCURED....

Is bios set to no KB?
NOT SURE WHAT KB MEANS...SORRY...

IF YOU ARE TALKING RAM MB DETECTS 2x2GB F3 or F4 BIOS

Does bios find HDD?
YES SATA WD 250GB

SAVE AND EXIT BIOS (no video, spinning fans)

1. CLEAR CMOS DOES WORK
2. UNPLUG and REPLUG PSU DOES WORK
3. ON / OFF on PSU DOES WORK

Really big pain to do every time (XP install)

*BIOS F4*
RAM FIXES FROM NEWEGG

1. EPP for DRAM (DISABLE) *AUTO DEFAULT* DID NOT FIX

2. MEMCLOCK TRI-STATING (ENABLE) *DISABLE DEFAULT* DID NOT FIX

I had the exact problems with a similar configuration

GA-MA78G-DS3H v1.0 (BIOS F3)
AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ BE
Crucial Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA1065 2x2GB DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15 2.2v
Antec Earthwatts 500W

I read some reviews that the MB was sensitive to the memory types and settings. I ended up RMA'ing the MB and replacing the memory with G.Skill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK 2x2GB DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15. My system has been rock solid for 3 weeks.

Good post guys!

I was thinking my Antec Ea380W was causing all the problems, but it seems the EA500W still won't solve all those problems... Now I'm thinking RMA the mobo...Thanks guys!

Ace2875/Longerslkk,

Try different memory brand first, if you can. Looking back there probably wasn't anything wrong with my motherboard.

Gagnu and Longerslkk

Thanks for your posts !
Really appriciate your input !

====

Could you please try this sequence on the GA-MA78G-DS3H

Almost always caused problem to happen.
I would think it's fixed and then it would happen again.....

1. Unplug everything from MB but power and CPU fan
2. Enter BIOS (version F2 or F3 or F4 all did this)
3. Change a setting (ex. splash screen OFF or RAM setting MANUAL to AUTO)
4. Save and exit
5. Unplug + Replug Power cable to PSU or PSU switch OFF / ON
6. INSERT SYSTEM DISK message after POST
7. CTRL+ALT+DEL
8. Does MB RE-POST ? (mine would not many times...)
9. TRY step 7 ( CTRL+ALT+DEL ) 5 MORE TIMES and see what happens

=====

My MB would RE-POST maybe 2 out of 5 times !

I would think I had the right Voltage or Ram setting and then PROBLEM !

RAM could be the issue w MB !

I have managed to fix the restart/boot problems with my GA-MA78G-DS3H motherboard. I have received my motherboard with the bios version F3. After contacting Gigabyte on their web I have received a standard response that did not help me at all and decided to fix the problem myself. Anyway here is the fix:
- at start-up pres DEL to enter the BIOS;
- once you have entered the BIOS setup press CTRL+F1 to view the hidden BIOS features;
- go "MB Intellingent tweaker" (M.I.T)
- set "EPP MODE" to "Disabled"
- set the "Set Memory Clock" option to "Manual"
Hope this helps all you GA-MA78G-DS3H owners out there as you will not get any useful info from Gigabyte.
Best of luck!
Stefan

I also have the exakt same problem with Warm-start or Warm-boot that some call it.

* Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA78G-DS3H revision 1.0
* Processor: AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4850E AM2 (45W) BOX
* Memory: Kingston HyperX 2GB 1066MHZ DDR2 CL5 (5-5-5-15) KHX8500D2K2/2GN

Thank you very much yostefan I have tried to solve this problem for a week and the fix
that you proposed plus some additional settings finally solved the problem for me.

suske:
Have you typed Ctrl-F1 to get into the hidden BIOS features?

I have added the last step to the fix proposed by yostefan below:

BIOS rev F4

- at start-up pres DEL to enter the BIOS
- once you have entered the BIOS setup press CTRL+F1 to view the hidden BIOS features
- go to "MB Intellingent tweaker" (M.I.T)
- set "EPP MODE" to "Disabled"
- set "Set Memory Clock" option to "Manual"
- set "DRAM Configuration" to Manual and enter Manual Timings listed by SPD for all the settings of your memory.

I have same rig with Crucial BAllistix RAM and AMD 5000+ be cpu.

Some 3 months or more went by where all seemed to work well, but now I can't restart, standby, reboot or the machine poops out like everybody else's.

This is my 3rd mobo and all 3 did this. I thought the BIOS adjustments I made in June would work, but now nothing does. I am going to call Gigabyte. . .

it seems that i fond a common solution for the problems with this board. try lowering the nortbridge temperature (either by changing the whole cooler or by adding a fan to the existing heatsink). i had freezes even in bios (oddly, never at full load), warm boot problems as described above. i reoriented a fan to the heatsink and it all seems to run much better now...and of course, cooler :)

I have resolved the problems:

update BIOS to F6 (31/12/2008)
http://www.giga-byte.com/Suppo...el.aspx?ProductID=2800

- at start-up pres DEL to enter the BIOS
- go to "MB Intellingent tweaker" (M.I.T)
- set "EPP MODE" to "Disabled"
- set "Set Memory Clock" option to "Manual"
- set "DRAM Configuration" to Manual and enter Manual Timings listed by SPD for all the settings of your memory.
