Gigabyte GA-7VRX and poor 3Dmark score.

first with the specs:
XP1800+
GA-7VRX
256MB CorsairXMS PC2700 @CL2
GeForce4 TI4200(64MB)
Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM

I had some initial problems getting the OS to install, but bumping the RAM volatge to 2.6 fixed that. The system runs stable just fine and I am not having the stability problems relating to the GF4 that I have been reading so much about. BUT! I am getting very poor 3Dmark benchmarks form this system. I recently built a EP-8K3A system with a XP1700+, Kingston PC2100(CL2.5) and the exact same Gainward GF4TI4200(64MB) card, and I get about 9700 3Dmarks, default. But my GB system cannot break the 7800 point. I have tried a dozens of settings including (but not limited to) changing the RAM to 266MHz, CL to 2.5, messed with all the performance enhancing options, and on and on...

Is anyone else having this problem with their 7VRX? I am nearly positive that the bottle-neck lies in the MoBO. I am considering just shelling out some more for another brand MoBo if it will give me another 2000+ 3Dmarks.

I'd appreciate any info/insight anyone could give me.
Thanks

Very strange. I get 9775 points on 3DMark2001SE on my 7VRXP (rev 1.1, F4 BIOS) and (overclocked) Radeon 8500 128MB.
Perhaps try upgrading the BIOS. F6 and F7 are available. I, however, will stick with what I've got since it's working (ain't broke, don't fix).

Hmmm... Maybe the problem is not the mobo then. I have an updated BIOS. Could you tell me what type of RAM you are using? Maybe that's it... I've heard of people having problems with the CorsairXMS series RAM.

I have had no problems with my Corsair XMS 2700. Then again I never had any problems with my 3D mark score either because I only have a GF2 GTS 32MB. Try here to see if anybody else had the same problem(s) (go to the gigabyte forum at the bottom)

Thanks, i didn't know about those forums. I think I found a thread that may yet contain the answer.

Hm, i reached 11130 3dmarks with my overclocked leadtek 4200 on my GA-7VRXP.
Try disabling all shadow functions in bios, and raise the apperture size to 128 MB.

XP2100+ btw.
