When I turn my new machine on it seems to do a couple quick resets before booting up normally. I just setup the bios but I didn't even touch the overclocking options.

That is normal and it usually is triggered by your ram.

What I mean is the reboots are intentionally triggered by the BIOS to change the NB strap which is needed to run your ram asynchronously to the FSB. So when you system boots the BIOS checks the CPU, sees the needed multiplier and FSB, and then it checks your RAM for its SPD settings.

You likely have the ram speed set to AUTO in the BIOS...this means it will clock the ram up to the highest listed setting in its SPD. If setting the ram at this speed (say DDR2-800) while the FSB for your processor is say 1066 (4x267) then the BIOS needs to change the NB strap to accomodate the DDR2-800 ram speed. So it reboots to do this.

If you want it to stop doing this then change the DDR speed from auto in the BIOS and set it to be 1:1 (also called synch) so the NB strap doesn't change.

Thanks for your reply, Since you told me it had something to do with my ram I went searching for the problem. I found the issue was inside the Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T). I guess it's like a menu in the bios for overclocking options, It seems that loading the Optimized Defaults put a setting for the ram overclocked. Under Dram Performance Control there is an option called Performance Enhance which was set to Turbo, Once I change it to Standard the issue has been resolved. So far I have shutdown and powered up a few times without issue. Thanks
