What's the verdict on x265 playback for 1080p with this unit? My gut says it should be fine... I'd love to replace the Android box (s905 2GB/16GB) entirely with something like this; tired of Kodi locking up during a movie and having to go back to the main Android screen and restart everything.

I don't know about H.265... Cherry Trail was supposed to add hardware playback support for H.265. This is Bay Trail, the previous generation. It does handle 1080P YouTube / H.264 just fine. Twitch.tv 1080P streaming was a bit iffy, probably because it needed Flash Player, and that's sluggish on machines of this caliber.

Edit: If you are buying this specifically for media playback, my advice would be to re-consider, and get a Cherry Trail mini-PC / TV-box, or maybe even the newer Apollo Lake / Goldmont units that should be out soon. Bay Trail wasn't really strong in media playback. (But as I said, 1080P H.264 is A-OK.)

That combo deal with ssd and ram was a good one. Been meaning to try win10 on that unit.
