If no one is bugging Gigabyte to release it then yes, it can languish for quite a while in Beta status.

But it doesn't generate as much profit as their higher-end boards, so why spend money (BIOS labor) on it?

If I had to just purely "guess" I would venture to suspect that Gigabyte is simply waiting for Intel to finally release the mainstream Yorkfields to the market so that Gigabyte can get thru the initial deluge of debug issues the masses will report uncovering with the F8a bios before they will confident enough to release it as an official rev.

never-mind
I think Penryn is the family name, and Wolfdale is the core name...

Yes, Penryn = 45nm Core 2 microarchitecture.

Wolfdale = dual-core 45nm

Yorkfield = quad-core 45nm

Harpertown = quad-core 45nm for XEON server

The company should either update the bios or not update the bios, not leave people in beta limbo for such a long time. There is more profit, I'll wager, in establishing a reputation for timely bios updates.

An earlier bios version says it added support for Yorkfields. I think it's v6.
