Gigabyte/AMD 64 3200+ boot failure after small OC

yo,
I've got a gigabyte k8ns 939 ultra, amd 64 3200+, and a gig of twinx corsiar. Ran it all on default for awhile on the latest downloaded drivers/bios considering I got the board OEM, and it didn't come w/ disks.

I recently ran the auto bios update utility from gigabyte (the internet update), which for some reason "updated" my bios from f5 to f3. It said I currently was running f5 and that I could update. After reboot, I"m back at f3......

Soooo, I do the manual update of the f5 bios file that i dl'd from gigabyte. During this process, I had also been slowly upping my fsb. I started at 2.08, which it ran at default, and upped twice to 2.10 and 2.13 without any problems what so ever. I made no changes to voltages or timings.

So at this point, I'm sitting stable at 2.13 ghz and have just manually updated to f5 bios.
*restarts* I enter bios, and up the fsb again to 2.16, again making no other changes. FSB at 216 w/ ratio at 10. Save to cmos and exit.

During post, system recognizes overclock, which it had before, and displays "If systems hangs on overclock please press Delete to enter setup" or smg to that matter. This is where it locked up, allowing nothing but a reset. Upon reset, NOTHING....no video no nothing.

After multiple CMOS resets and not much progress, the only thing I have to work on is the message at the very beginning of post, where it locks, not allowing me to enter bios.

"CPUID: 0ff0 Patch ID:0041"

I found this on the internet :
"CPUid Error - BIOS needs to be updated in order to support your CPU, or disable "BIOS update" setting in CMOS"

Sooo, maybe it's bios needs updated again, or at least reverted to something that worked.
If so, is this possible to flash bios, before booting bios? Booting from floopy or cd takes place after inital post, so that's not really an option.

So this is as far as I can get. Upon this message, the system is locked and requires and cmos reset to get back to that point.

ANY IDEAS ANYONE????? I"d really appreciate any kind of thoughts or ideas. I"m open to anything.

Thanks

So does it not boot period now????

I was going to say maybe the lockup was do to memory over its rated speed, or you dont have an active pci lock enabled....If it doesn't boot now even at default that would be another problem...

Yea...it basically doesn't boot.

It has gone from absolutely nothing, to showing the post screen. but it doesn't get anywhere.

It recognizes the cpu as an AMD 3200, but won't read the fsb speed.

And that's where it locks, and requires cmos reset to get back to that point.

About the mem speed or pci lock, how would I change cuz I can't get into bios.

Have you done the reset of cmos by pulling battery for a period of time??? try unplugging the power supply as well.....

Also unplug and turn off the power supply...Let it drain its charge...I have seen strnager things where this has worked in the past for ppl.....

YOu bios message is a bit different I have to admit....Time to call tech support...Dont mention the OC and see if they can explain the bios update to an older version and then when you reupdated to F5 you had this error message upon reboot and a freeze...

Again dont mention OC......

I can care less what ppl thionk when it comes to mobos and damaging them from ocing...Dont put the fvcking options in there then....

In the end it may not be the mobo, but I strongly suspect that it is and not the cpu....Just use this to pick their brain and get some more technical help pertaining t their board....

Then RMA it if they cant help you....

Yea...I'm trying the complete disconnect right now. I'll leave it be for awhile.

And I also plan on trying gigabyte support. Hopefully it's worth a shit. I def don't plan on mentioning oc. Just the bios updates. 🙂

Thanx for your help, and if you have any other ideas, let me know.

Can't wait to RMA.................. 🙁

Hard reset worked.

Left it all unplugged for bout 3 hours.

Battery out, jumper on, mobo power disconnected, power supply disconnected.
Reverted to f3 bios w/ internet updater.

Back to normal 🙂 🙂 😛

Thanks for your help
