hello,

as soon as i try to install any drivers for this card(Omega or the Calypso drivers) when i reboot it will show the windows xp loading screen then as soon as it prepares to show the desktop, i cannot see anything but jumbled pixels on the screen.

Everytime, i have to go to safe mode and uninstall the drivers and without them, i cannot play any games. My specs are as follows:

Abit NF8-V pro socket 754 w/ latest Bios(17)
Sempron 2800+
512 mb ddr
ati 9600 pro
Windows XP SP2

I have seen that other people problems with games freezing but i cannot even get it to boot with the drivers installed. please help me b/c i am going crazy over here

you've tried installing the stock drivers from ATI? The ones you're attempting to install are third-party drivers that can create the kinds of problems you're experiencing.

yes i have tried those as well. i'm about to go out and buy a new video card if i cant get it working in the next few days.

If all your getting is jumbbled pixels on the screen no bios nothing, I will make a assumption that your videocard is dead. Possibly by static shock damage.

Don't do anything drastic, have you tried reinstalling windows?

It does sound like your video card is on its way out, but before you give up check to make sure the cooling fan is turning & not clogged with dust... also if you have another video card you could try installing you could eliminate the mb/psu as potential problems... if all else fails (and your data is backed up) re-installing Windows is a last-ditch option you can try... the bad news is that I've had the exact same symptoms your describing now on one of mine & several customers PC's & all but one of the video cards was shot.

thanks for the replies. it was a new install. i had just gotten the motherboard and cpu. so i guess i am going to just get that new video card and say bye bye with this problematic card.

you do occasionally run into situations where a specific component simply won't work with another. I assembled probably a dozen machines with a certain Shuttle NF2 mainboard, and one simply wouldn't work with a Radeon 9200SE video card I had ordered to go with it. Had the exact same problem you describe. I RMA'd the video card, thinking it was defective, but when the replacement came in, same problem. Tried the new card in a different machine with a different mainboard, and it worked fine.

I never could get my 6800GT to work in my Neo2 Platinum, either. Sometimes things just don't play nice together.

Good luck
