I currently have a Gigabyte 8IEXP w P4 1.6a and 2x256 Crucial PC2100 overclocked to 2.13. The same processor on my Asus P4B266C did 2.4 easily. When I try to go above 133 FSB on the Gigabyte, it just powers off for awhile then reboots at 100 FSB again. Currently have BIOS F8 installed. Stock Intel heatsink/fan. Fan on the northbridge died but wouldnt overclock when it was working anyways. Tried maxing the CPU and RAM voltages which didn't help. I think cpu voltage is currently at 1.575 and dimm is +0.1. AGP/PCI are locked. Video card is a Chaintech GF4 TI4200.

Any ideas what is holding me back? Probably the board :( What voltages are ok to run the RAM and CPU at? And does anyone know how to get into the RAM timings part of the BIOS, for some reason I cant get to them. Thx!

could be the ram and ram timings...I had an epox board that couldn't run my pc3000 at near 400mhz with same timings I am doing 450 on now...My old asus p4s333 mobo would run my kingmax pc2700 at 410mhz but my epox would not run it at more then 370 before pitching a fit....

Make sure 1:1 with lowest timings and even raise the vdimm to 2.6v.....

Also pay attention to the voltage rails as I have had 3 diff mobos with my current power supply with same components and every one has reported different readings...Look for extremely low +12v and +5v rails...

Thanks, turns out it is the RAM. One of the sticks just won't do 134 heh so I guess it is time for new RAM.

The processor seemed to do 150 FSB with no problem before. What RAM should I get? Should I just get PC2700 and run the RAM and FSB at the same speed? Or would it make more sense to get PC3200, run the FSB however fast it can go and add the 33 Mhz to the RAM? Like running the FSB at 166 and the RAM at 200/DDR400. How much of a performance gain would there be?

What is a healthy voltage to run a P4 1.6a at? If you can't change RAM timings with an 8IEXP, what dictates the timings?
How important is the fan on the northbridge? Mine died so do I need a replacement and if so, which one?

Thx!
