I'm receving this tuesday the kt400 chipset 7xaxp MB from gigabyte.

I have a few questions:
Is the sound card good enough for not install my audigy soundblaster?
I have an alpha heatsink, is there a way to install it? and if not what is the best heatsink for it.

I have a few other questions but i forgot now, sdo i'll post them later.

No on-board sound is as good as an Audigy... however, if you only have cheap computer speakers, makes it very hard to tell. you have to have a nice speaker setup to be able to tell between C-Media audio chips and something else... AC97 MAY be a different story though. is there any reason you don't wanna put the audigy in? if you can get some coin for it or something, you may have good reason to use the onboard sound.

also, there is no "best" heatsink... some are are really loud and are made for overclocking, some are very quiet and are meant to keep your CPU cool but make almost no noise.. what are you objectives? I love my cooler... it's a Coolermaster HHC-001 with a YS-Tech 27CFM fan on it. nice and quiet, but cools fantastic.

there's some input for you.. hope this helps a bit.. :D

I believe that the 7VAXP does not have the 4 mounting holes in the MB for that heatsink.

I'm filling all my PCI slots.
So i thought that if the onboard audio was good almost to the audigy level, then i could forgo it.
I have a 8500 radeon on it, but i kinda like the TV stuff of my older AIW radeon, so i'm using that now.

I don't have much money to spend right now, but later i thought of putting an 9700pro/nv30 card and a TV tuner with video in/out PCI card. Is there one that can accept more than 125channels. I have a charter digital cable with like 1000 channels.

I have my alpha heatsink, now what can i replace it by? i have an tornado heatsink, but compared to the alpha its a child.

I was under the impression you already had a soundblaster Audigy. if you don't have alot of money, get the mobo, and TRY the on-board sound before making any purchases on an Audigy card you may not need.. like I said before, if you don't have decent speakers really, you will be happy with the on-board sound. and as for the heatsink... I have a CoolerMaster HHC-001... best heatsink I've had my hands on to date. period.

hope this helps.

I bought a 7VAXP about 2 weeks ago. So far, I love it! The audio sounds fine to me. I have a decent 5 speaker system and no problems. I have a Sould Blaser 5.1 and just left it out.

I have already an audigy. But if i don't need, then i could use the on board sound, saving me a PCI slot.
