Gigabyte 7N400 Pro/nForce 2 Ultra 400 sound problems

I have the Gigabyte 7N400 Pro with the nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset and I am using the onboard sound. The only problem I have with it is that at full volume (master & wave), its still too quiet to watch movies. Especially in AC3. When I play games, the sound is about where I want it at full blast but there are a lot of times when I wish I could crank the volume more. Is there a program that will let you amplify the sound by say, 20 db? If not, what would you guys reccomend? This is pretty frustrating.

I have the same board, like it so far. Did you change the output device to headphones through the nforce control panel?

Quite often headphones -especially high quality- do require high levels from the outputs, which nowadays seem to be intended to be hooked up to powered speakers. Some powered speakers have a headphone jack.
