Remember I am in Canada so our prices suck over here.

I can get this card for $230 after tax and shipping.

Best deal on a 7870 since I signed up on this forum was 'HIS 7870' - $169.99 after $20 mail in rebate. So $189.99 if no rebate.

The Gigabyte 7870 OC has good review are Hardocp but they say since it's in price range of 7950 it's not worth it.

Gigabyte 7950 in Canada - $330 after tax shipping.
Gigabyte 7870 OC in Canada - $230 after tax shipping.

$100 difference.

Do you think it's worth it? The card beats reference 7950, but not other 7950s. 7950 by Gigabyte is a good overclocker, MSI too.

What do you think?

I like the Windforce cooler, but I doubt it offers a lot of overclocking headroom over a reference cooler. Are there any 7870's you can get cheaper?

The Gigabyte comes with a 10% overclock (1100mhz) and one of the better coolers, but also has a non-reference PCB. That has advantages and disadvantages. Mostly, I think their PCB results in a lower upper limit in voltage control, but the card itself is probably marginally more efficient and runs a little cooler. Better if you're going to run stock but worse if you want to overclock it to the max.

Well my card that I wanted was either 7950 by Gigabyte or MSI. No deals on the Black Friday, the Cyber Monday, or Boxing Day. Really sad...

Now I have just been waiting and waiting. New cards soon though so I am not sure what to do.

I really want card to be under $300 budget.

There is though
XFX Radeon HD 7970 Double D for $395 after tax and shipping.

not sure if that's a good deal.

I wouldn't do that a this point. I'd pony up another 10-20 bucks for a 7870 LE.

This particular model was acutally on sale for $215 after rebate over the weekend.
I passed on that one a few times.

Hardocp gave it good reviews but owners gave it some bad reviews. black screens, flickering, and very noisy fan.

I know Gigabyte makes great cards. I am on the fence about this Powercolor model since not many people talk about it.

OP if you can spend USD 300 the HD 7950 is the card to get. the sapphire HD 7950 boost is a very good card. excellent dual x cooler. unlocked voltage. Crysis 3 and bioshock infinite free.

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_558&item_id=055475

the recent gigabyte HD 7950 cards are coming with FZ1 bios , 1ghz boost clocks and locked voltage.

if you are on a tight budget go for the Sapphire HD 7870 XT with boost. uses the Tahiti LE chip. the dual x cooler runs much cooler than the pcs+ myst hd 7870. bioshock infinite and tombraider free.

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_558&item_id=057211

at stock HD 7950 boost is 25% faster than HD 7870 and 15% faster than HD 7870 Tahiti LE. with overclocking at the same clocks the HD 7950 boost is 30 - 35% faster than HD 7870 and around 20% faster than HD 7870 Tahiti LE.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Club_3D/HD_7870_jokerCard_Tahiti_LE/31.html

BF3 1920 x 1200

HD 7870 - 53.2
club3d HD 7870 Tahiti LE - 59.2
HIS HD 7950 iceq x2 boost - 67.5
club3d HD 7870 Tahiti LE (1210 mhz) - 69.8
HD 7970 Ghz - 78.9
HIS HD 7950 iceq x2 boost - 82.9

if you are definitely going to play crysis 3 its easier to go with HD 7950 boost as it saves you 60 bucks.

The 7870 has major problems from Sapphire I have read? Only one with the problems.

See there is not much price difference between the Sapphire 7870 and 7950 compared to the $100 difference between Gigabyte 7870 and 7950.

the problems occur with the regular HD 7870 based on pitcairn chip. the Sapphire HD 7870 XT uses the TAHITI LE chip. 1536 stream processors at 975 mhz boost on Tahiti LE compared to 1280 stream processors at 1000 mhz on HD 7870 Pitcairn. 256 bit memory at 6 Ghz (192 Gb/s) on Tahiti LE vs 256 bit memory at 5 Ghz (160 Gb/s) on HD 7870 Pitcairn. completely different board and newer design. this card does not have any of those issues.

I have never heard of anyone talk about this Sapphire XT card before. The Powercolor Tahiti is available at a few sites. Never seen the Sapphire anywhere until you link it.

How come it's not very popular? Because of the price? Where does it stand against the 7950? Only $40 price difference. Not $100 like the Gigabytes.

the sapphire HD 7870 XT is the best Tahiti LE. the cooler is much better than the PCS+ MYST HD 7870 Tahiti LE. it performs just like the PCS+ MYST HD 7870 or the club3d HD 7870 XT joker. i have shown the tpu reviews for HD 7870 Tahiti LE and HD 7950 boost with OC performance

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1160&pid=1790&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

newegg has it for a higher price

tahiti le reviews

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/01/01/powercolor_radeon_hd_7870_myst_edition_review/

The Sapphire HD 7870 XT is a good option if you cannot stretch to 300 dollars.

if you want a simple comparison of the 3 chips on a perf index

Stock

HD 7870 - 100
HD 7870 Tahiti LE - 110
HD 7950 boost - 125

with overclocking to same clocks

HD 7870 - 100
HD 7870 Tahiti LE - 112 - 115
HD 7950 - 130 - 135

HD 7870 Tahiti LE will perform like HD 7950 (800 mhz) at stock. with overclocking to 1.2 ghz it will match HD 7970(925 Mhz).

The card is too new so it's not being properly recognized by a lot of mobos unless the mobo is flashed to newest BIOS.

Choosing a video card is almost entirely personal preference imo.
Just like choosing a motherboard, or cpu.

Anywhere around $200 for a 7870 is a good deal.
I payed nearly $300 USD for my 7850 when they first came out.
Both HIS and Gigabyte are good, although many might dissagree.

Good luck

In that case, jump on this clearance sale:

Gigabyte 660 Ti 2GB $260 ($240 AR) @ canadacomputers

I dunno how well the Ti's overclock but most of the reviews I've read show the 660Ti at stock as being somewhere between an HD7870 and 7950, but in Crytek games, Kepler seems to fall behind (closer to a 7850). If OP is looking to play Crysis 3, Kepler is probably *not* the way to go, especially a 660Ti.

out of stock online. once they are out, Canada Computers don't get anymore. Same with Memory Express.

Everyone complains about 660 ti cripple bandwidth so I have avoided them.

Yes I will play Crysis 3.

Yeah get the Powercolor. What are the cooling solutions like? You might not be able to overclock much with the Powercolor.
