The itunes gift card was a good idea. Asked my g/f what her younger sister would like for Christmas and that was the answer. So if she does like music -- you can't really go wrong with it.

I know what they want. They want sex, but many are too afraid. They want friends. They want fun. They want gadgets. They wanna be sweet. They wanna be naughty. They wanna be special to someone. They want safety and security. They wanna nurture something or someone.

In other words, they want what pretty much all women want. The only difference is at 14, they may not know what they want on a conscious level. But they do want.

Out of all the stuff on that list, the only one you can flat out give to them is gadgets. So get them a gadget. If you get her a phone for fucks sake make sure it has unlimited data and texting. I dont care if its a Nokia 1000, she will use it a lot. If you get her an iPod also get her some accessories like a carrying case and maybe spare battery. Also a dock with speakers for her bedroom.

Thanks for all the ideas folks. Had a day and a half of successful shopping, so I think it'll be a good xmas for her. Did end up getting the new Zelda for DS, a small Calvin and Hobbes book, some sweets for her stocking, and a beginning photography book. Some of the others were good ideas, but either she has it already (wii, camera), she's not allowed or doesn't use it (makeup, earrings), or we let her pick her own (clothes, bags).
