What to get? My friend is going to India for a month and I want to get her something (to slyly help make her think of me while she's there). What's something that would be useful to a traveler? I thought about a book since I like to read while traveling, or music. Can't seem to think of anything good.

I do not even want to know why, but this part made me think of this thread.

Yes, I am so ashamed.

it's not what u like doing while traveling, it's figuring out what she likes.

All I know is she's athletic, likes to read, and likes many genres of music. We talked about favorite books, she really liked Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, and Siddhartha by Hesse. I told her i liked Hemmingway -- she hadn't ready any of his stuff so I thought of getting her For Whom the Bell Tolls, one of my favorite books, but I think it's a little sad/depressing.

Music wise, I could get a CD but I don't know if she'll know how to rip it to her ipod, and I don't know if gifting someone electronic music is easy to do. I thinks something related to India to get her in the mood for her trip would be good too but I don't know much about India.

if Rand & Hesse are her favorite authors, get her a book from either? or u can get her a portable book light....or a nice bookmarker (maybe even engraved?) that isn't the regular "paper" types. or u could always get her a gift card to Barnes or Borders if u're really stuck.

a great gift

I just started using these and cannot rave loudly enough about how terrific a product
these are.

Remember, with all the restrictions on personal care items while flying, a couple of these, tucked into her suitcase will be GREATLY appreciated. Be sure to get her
one of the sponges with a buffer side.

some cough/cold medicines (and I am serious). Make sure that she carries some with her and drinks only bottled water over there.
