hi all,

i got a gift card for walmart for christmas. i shop at walmart for certain things but not for everything. in general, cash is better for me because i can choose where to spend it. does walmart allow people to return gift cards for cash/credit-to-cred_card? what if i don't have the receipt for the gift card?

thanks,
chipy

Well, if he needs the cash now...a GC to wallmart doesnt due him any good. My suggestion; sell in the FS/FT forum or on ebay.

the point of gift cards are to limit where you can buy things at. if walmart gave you money in exchange for ur gift card, then it defeats that purpose, thus they make less money. a $75 gift card at walmart guarantees them to recieve $75 of somebody's money. why would they give it back to the customer?

Back in the day when I worked a retail job we did not exchange gift cards for cash. I am pretty sure that nearly every other company will not give you cash for the gift card. Hell so often today you don't even get cash when you return an item but rather get store credit.

I despise Wal-Mart myself, however they do sell a little of everything so I would think it should be easy to find something to spend that gift card on.

Back in the day, when the GC actually say a certain value, you can buy something for $1 and get the CASH back.
Now with damm technology, they just swipe the damm GC and you get the remaining balance.

thanks for all the replies.

indeed i kinda need the cash now.

i guess i can call walmart to confirm whether they take back giftcards. otherwise i may just use it everytime i go there or try to sell it on ebay.

either way, thanks for the replies.

lol, this also defeats the purpose of a giftcard. Stores stopped doing that when they stopped selling gcs in fixed amounts.

buy something with the gift card and then return it for the cash.

lol, that doesnt work anymore...

Exactly, they can see how you orignally paid for the item, and will only return it in the same form. Or if it's a gift and no receipt usually you can return it but they will give a gift card only, even if it was originally paid for in cash.

They do it for a few reason's, one being if the giftcard or item was paid for with a credit card, and they give you back cash, they lose money due to the credit card fees they pay.

They still sell in fixed amounts. I always want to steal and activate all the rows of $500 gift cards at best buy.

you can try to stand outside of a walmart and try to sell the card to someone there, you might get arrested thou for solicitation. 😉
