Gibbs returning to Redskins' sideline?

He owns a small stake in the Falcons, which he is going to have to sell now that he is the 'Skins coach (again).

Wow, that is crazy. I mean - he wouldn't come back before, but now he is? I don't think $5M (per year) is enough to work for Dan Snyder.

Joe Gibss might be a loyal coach but he's no savior. Redskins have more holes than even my Giants. Their o-line sucked this year, their d-line sucked and is aging. They have no running back and with the amoun tof money they paid Arrington I doubt they have too much cap room.

Actually, the way that Arrington's deal was structured gives them considerable salary cap room. The question is whether they can sign Champ Bailey or not.

There is no better hire than Joe Gibbs, this is a Redskins fans dream.

I agree that Snyder has been a failure regarding the teams on field success. Some owners never learn how to be successful in the NFL, but this is the best thing that could have happened to the Redskins. Snyder worships the ground that Gibbs walks on, there is going to be no interfering this time.

Come on. He tried to hire a new coach instead of getting some NFL re-hash has been. He tried to pick up some new players. I'll agree those decisions went bad and his track record on field sucks. But, he's the owner. I'm sure he'd love to win, but his ultimate goal is to make money with the team. He seems quite good at that. Blame the fans that still buy Redskins crap, attend games, and donate to the club. As long as he's making good money, Snyder isn't going anywhere.

I would say that is about half true. Snyder is a marketing guru, when he bought the Redskins, they were the most leveraged team in the NFL because they had built the stadium from completely private funds. Through shrewd business deals and good interest rates, he has greatly reduced the debt on the team and increased the overall value of the team to around $1 billion.

Now granted, he is piggy backing on the name of the Redskins in order to make these deals, but he wasn't handed an ideal situation when he bought the team. Jack Kent Cooke, was a good owner, but not the most shrewd businessman.

Snyder is also a huge skins fan (in addition to being the owner)... it's too bad he wasn't able to get Gibbs a few years ago when he tried to buy the Superbowl (signing all those big name players). Coaching and coherency was the #1 thing that team had. -- I don't think Snyder will get in Gibbs' way.

Gibbs won 3 Superbowls (out of 4... Theisman's ego was a big factor for missing the 4th). The last superbowl they won was with a mediocre (at best) quarterback (Mark Rypien). Every skins game was exciting when Gibbs coached. Even if the skins were losing after the first half, you could *ALWAYS* count on them making the right adjustments during half time and looking respectable in the 2nd half.

How many times have you ever seen a field goal kick returned for a touchdown? Do any other coaches even ever attempt such a thing? (Darrell Green returned one IIRC) Gibbs always had innovative plays that no one had ever seen before, and he studied their opponents and knew them well (one of the main reasons he claimed he left football for). Gibbs is the coach who stays til 4am every night preparing for the next game.

Gibbs is from a different time... won't pan out to how all you skins fans think it will....

Field goal kicks are attempted to be returned all the time when it's a long kick and it's no where close... i don't see why you think it was all Gibbs idea....

I must say though he is a dedicated person and will give his all for the team.

Yes, Redskins fan's dream come true. I may even shell out the cash to see a game next season. Gibbs has proven that he can be a winner at ANYTHING he goes after.... so I do hope the Redskins will turn around and produce some winning seasons

it wasn't until after returning from a ban on baseball that steinbrenner even made the pretense of listening to his "Baseball People" and that was ONLY because they were winning championships. as soon as they started to lose, guess what, Steinbrenner started to fiddle again. wells etc.

now he INTENTIONALLY chose not to sign pettitte against the advice of ALL of his baseball people. AND he will let Joe Torre go OR Torre will NOT sign an extension even if offerred him.

Actually, if you think about it Snyder IS Steinbrenner, no difference. so if the league were to ban snyder for a few years and ONLY allow him to sign checks like MLB did with steinbrenner, than MB Joe Gibbs could turn around that franchise.
