You have to have both guards covered. Doesn't matter if you have 9 guys on the line if 7 of them are on one side.

There have been Saturday games during the last couple weeks of the season for I don't know how many years and this game has been scheduled for this Saturday since the schedule was released last spring.

The Pats will have to win the SB this year to cement their standing, anything short would be an epic failure.

Upon joining the Browns in 1946, he was switched to quarterback, where he would lead the team to the league championship game in each of his 10 seasons, winning on seven occasions.

Thanks to free agency we will never see any team dominate on a championship level for such an extended reign.

not just free agency. the nfl's idea that each team should be even killed it.

Not necessarily, that torch is just passed to a different kind of dynasty. Rather than the team that can assemble the best team, it becomes the team that can best manage the draft/salary cap.

Look at this season...you want parity? We've got a 1-14 team, a 16-0 team, two 13-2 teams, as 12-3 team.....sorry Tagliabue, your dream of an even NFL failed.

Records don't tell the whole story though. While there are some craptastic teams even the Ravens, severely depleted by injuries, came oh so close to knocking off the Pats. A time out, called by someone who the refs should not even have acknowledged according to the rules, was the difference.

I think parity on the playing field is here and it is better for the game. The disparity between those that manage player acquisition & retainment is the same as it was before free agency.

Bad teams have always knocked off good teams from time to time, that's nothing new. The Cowboys lost to the Rams in 1992, and the Rams finished 6-10.

The Patriots and Colts have been pretty dominant this decade...those two teams have won 4 out of 7 Superbowls so far (and likely, that will become 5 out of 8). Neither team looks to fall off anytime soon, either.

But you don't see teams wallowing in decade long slumps of futility anymore. You do see teams like the Ravens, Rams, etc that go from crap one year to winning the title the next. That did not happen on such a regular basis until the effects of free agency hit home. Teams are so up and down one year to the next, but at least every team has the chance to quickly improve compared to what their continued plight would have almost guaranteed before free agency.

Deeko, as you know both of our teams suffered greatly in the beginning stages. Each had amassed a talent pool that would have likely resulted in a return to the dominance/rivarly they enjoyed in the 70's.

Call me crazy but I think NE going undefeated is a bad thing. They are definitely due for a loss, it seems like the past 5-6 games have all been won by crazy 4th quarter comebacks from Brady and co. The odds are gonna catch up with them sooner or later. I feel they will get bounced by the Colts in the AFC championship game.

That's my prediction.

I agree with you. I think the Colts defense is going to be the largest factor in the playoffs. Manning's great, but the defense is young and vibrant and it seems like they are hitting their stride at just the right time.

Oh yea it has certainly changed the dynamic of the league, especially how quick a team can improve, I'm just saying that as time goes on, teams will get better and better at managing the cap and their teams, allowing dynasties to return...which the Pats and Colts are showing us. They aren't as dominant as those past teams, not yet anyway, but they're proof that it can happen.

Hey, I just want to make this ONE post regarding this:

1. Most points in a season record, broken.
2. Highest TDs for a quarterback in a season record, broken.
3. Highest receiving TDs for a receiver in a season record, broken.
4. 16 - 0, perfect regular season record held for 35 years, broken.

All in a single game, to the GREATEST football team, cheers. Here's to 19 - 0 and another superbowl ring. :cheers;

Edit: credits to the Giants too, they played their best game this season.

I agree with all of the accounts except for the "GREATEST" tag. They have not earned that yet. You would feel pretty farkin stupid if they lost before winning the superbowl this year.

Bingo. How can you be called the greatest without a SB ring? Sure, they've won three already, but so have other teams. People are already starting to crown them, pathetic, but I will give credit where credit is due. 16-0 is a hefty accomplishment.

i agree. BUT even if they lose they are in the top 5 i would say.

I agree with that.

Ditto.

Actually, I'd still say they're the greatest football team to date, even if they lose their first play off game. They've already won 3 superbowl rings within four years, and just leave their mark as the ONLY team in history of NFL to go 16 - 0 in a regular season. Let's see any other team do that within the next 35 years. Now, if PATS go on to win the superbowl, then that is a record that would seem impossible to be broken anytime soon.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It doesnt make sense, but you are entitled to think this way.

Sizable milestone.

I ask again.... why was this thread stickied?

Just clutters up the front page further for no good reason.
Well, Red is a Pats fan and a mod. Of course, that could all be some weird, inexplicable coincidence. Or perhaps Tom Brady's awesome powers reach even into our humble forum.

Have you watched any of the other SB season years of the PATS? They constantly had close games they were good because thay always pulled through like they have done the past 5-6 games.

Congrats to the Patriots and their fans. This must be a good time to be a sports fan in Boston.
