Giants fire Jim Fassel

Argo

Lifer
The "biggest" secret is out. Too lazy to link, go to ESPN.

Fassel said he will coach the remaining two games, which I think is a pretty tough thing to do.

Fassel is a good coach and I'm sad to see him go. He had a good run here, but this team just has too much talent to be in the cellar of the NFC. He should get a good job somewhere else and he is well deserving of one.

That sucks. He has no control over Tiki fumbling the ball, Shockey getting hurt, getting screwed in the playoffs last year..etc etc. Oh well, New York is a tough place to coach. I bet he is glad he is getting out.

I agree, he's a good man.

The Giants are not at the bottom of their league because of Tikki's fumbling or injuries. Why exactly they sucked so bad this year, I can't say. If I could I would be head coach. The ENTIRE team played terrible all year, it's not one or two players. While I don't know if that's Fassel's fault or not, the head coach is the fall guy.
EDIT: As far as last years playoffs go, his team experienced the 2nd or 3rd worst collapse in NFL history. Let's not try to blame that on some questionable calls or whatever. Again, I don't know if it's his fault or not, but he is the head coach.

Same here. I thought he was a pretty good coach that just had some tough luck. But I think this is best for both parties. People lost faith in him. I don't think he would be able to turn the team around next year after what happened this year.

Not too many guys have the balls to guarantee anything but he did. And his team came through.

There was no chance of him coming back next year.

Whoever they get to coach, I hope they bother to give him an offensive line.

That sucks he was fired. I was looking for at least 3 more years of Giants = Iggles' Doormat. 😀

So you're Red Sox and Eagles fan??? Boy, you got some bad taste in teams 🙂 As for being doormat - Giants have 2 superbowl rings. Eagles - have somewhere around 0 🙂

he's a good coach, he took a pretty much no talent team to the super bowl! and they Gins have been very competitive under him.

Hahaha. He just roots for any team that has a rivalry with a NY team. 😉

🙂 Nah I grew up in South Jersey, about 10 minutes from Philly (g/f lives there too). Needless to say, that whole area is comprised of hardcore Eagle fans (up to about exit 7 of NJ TPk all the way into Delaware). I like BoSox because my dad used to take me up to Fenway to watch Clemens pitch... 1986 I especially fell in love with Rocket and the Sox, although they didn't win it all :brokenheart:

Eagles last year against TB at the Vet can add to the :brokenheart: list and ALCS Game 7. I must truly be cursed as a sports fan to have teams that make it so far and lose. 🙂

So you were crying while I was screaming and laughing my @ss off at Calvin Schiraldi and Bill Buckner 😉

He had to go, the Giants just quit. He obviously lost the ability to motivate the team and needed to be replaced. Not really a big deal, there are going to be a lot of fired coaches joining him and plenty of job openings. He'll be coaching some other team opening day next year.

Pretty disappointing season for the Giants. Even with the unexpected like losing Shockey, they showed absolutely no heart or intensity. Losing like they did in the playoffs last year either galvanizes a team together in an effort to show that they were better than that or it destroys them by convincing them they can't win close games. It quite obviously did the latter, the Giants folded up every time it was a close game in the 4th.

i think he is a good coach. he can't help that his players fumble and get injured.

i'm sure the Niners playoff game last year didnt help his position.

Injuries and fumbles are not the reason why the Giants are where they are. Sure, it doesn't help any, but the ENTIRE team played like crap the whole season.

Whether or not Fassel is a "good guy" is not relevant to his coaching abilities or his remaining as Head Coach. I mean, he sure was likeable, but he was never going to get the team over the top. Their collapse to the hated FortyWhiners in the playoffs will be his legacy. Disgraceful! And as Head Honcho it's his cross to bear.
On the other side, the Giants roster is vastly overrated. Their D is nothing, Collins is an average QB on the way down, they haven't had a wide receiver with any kind of speed since, yikes, Homer Jones, (anyone remember him?), the O line is all rooks, and Tiki Barber can't hold the ball.
The good news is that if they tank the remaining two games they could have a sweet draft pick or two. Now, wouldn't Eli Manning look good in a BigBlue uniform?
Even better news is that as a Giants fan and Eagles hater, I'll have a good view of them going down, hard, in the playoffs. Surely you dopey Eagles fans can't possibly think that Andy Reid can take any team any where.......do you??
And McNabb is just another version of ol' Chicken Legs Cunningham, only uglier. And we know what Randall's legacy is in the post season.
Nope, the Colts carry the cup this year and Peyton Manning goes to Disneyworld.

Um, maybe you've been watching figure skating lately but the Eagles have won 9 in a row. Your opinion of the Eagles failed to matter once you uttered Giants fan... everything will be juuuuuuuuust fine Carbo </patting on head like puppy>

Sure. Sure, everything will be just fine. Seems I heard that same, tired old refrain last year from all the Eagles fans. First round exit...........
