They say it only likes to blow up amoeba's.

"The team then took samples of this permafrost and put them in contact with amoebas (blob-like single-celled organisms) in Petri dishes. The researchers then waited to see what happened.

Some of the amoebas burst open and died. When the scientists investigated further, they found a virus had killed the amoebas."

Maybe this is how the real Walking Dead will start.

Yeah, but having a mechanism to easily kill amoebas is a good thing.

That depends...how easy will it be to kill/control the amoeba killing virus? Will it mutate into a human killing virus?
Will it wipe out the honey bees? Whales? Cattle?
Could that virus be what wiped out the mammoths and/or mastodons?
