I was under the impression that GDDR3 ran a lot cooler than it's predessesor and doesn't require herioc cooling, and that even though the GPU runs a bit hotter the stock cooling solution was more than up to the task?

While the Tt Giant III is an excellent cooler, it is too f*cking loud! Dont get it, get yourself a Zalman cooler instead. I dont even like my 5950 Ultra but Im waiting until the new cards come out so I can sell it and get a 6800 Ultra or something.

I already own a zalman on my Ti4200 with noiseless fan BUT because i used permanent Ram sinks on it, my original cooler wont count because of interference so ill have to buy a new cooler.

With my zalman i noticed that the Front plate is quite hotter than the back plate, reapplied with a generous amount of Ceramique and still the back plate is cooler than the front plate while the manual say they both must be equal i mean should be equal.

The G III may benefit from the Dual heat pipes i know that for sure

I use the Giant III with a 120mm fan atached. It cools great and is dead silent (antec 120mm).

That fan isn't even silent a 5v. Close, but not quite there.

The giant 3 on low is just as quite as the zalman, but also cools a hella lot better, it comes with copper ram sinks also that the zalman doesnt, ive used both on my radeon 9800 pro and achieved a 30mhz increase from switching from the zalman to the giant 3. Also wut mcarra did seems pretty sweet and attached a 120mm fan

Looking at your case, I can see how you might think that. I wish people who have absolutely no regard for silence wouldn't act like they do....

What are you talking about????? This case is really silent. Fan mate at low 92mm in the Zalman, 2x120mm case fans controled with the front controler@less than 1300rpm and a TT Butterfly Purepower self-controled (completly silent), and the antec low rpm 120mm. So isn't that silent???
Shut up if you don't know what you're talking about :|

The fact that you think the TT Butterfly is silent pretty much shoots down your argument. Basically no power supply that includes a fan is quiet enough. Fan swaps are necessary.

I'm up to about $600 in silencing gear alone. ;)

someone went overkill on the water cooling, for near silent air options, I really like his setup.

Negative, I'm on silent air here. I'm looking at throwing in another $300 for silent water cooling though.
