giant hurricane over the dakotas

is that just not caused because of the warmer air in the U.S. hitting the denser air over the great lakes, and canada, being pushed back, and then the mountains containing it as well?

Interesting rotation for the midwest. I have seen storms with some rotation but that is interesting to see. This may be cause by a dip in the jet stream and a low hovering over the midwest. I have seen this kind of pattern causing drought conditions in the midwest. The storm is probably coming down from canada or something and running into the resistance from the jetstream.
 
Very interesting to see. It's not like a hurricane but just a rotation in the clouds, sort of looking like a low-pressure system though. It's probably not a big weather maker for those folks over there.
 
When you have a trough of air caught between two weather patterns you can have a cloud display like that. It's not that unusual.

As for hurricaine... well... if you look at the radar in your link you'll see that the weather formation is made up of light rain and light snow. Gas prices should remain stable. 😉
