Yeah, it seems they started manufacturing the duds around November and stopped production altogether in January. I guess if you need to carry it around then the LCD is a logical choice. My monitor just sits on a large desk at all times, so I don't mind the size or weight.
The tool needed is just a phillips screwdriver with a long shank; I happened to have one lying around, but you can probably get one at Sears or Home Depot for a dollar or two. Although I can definitely relate to your frustration with getting a bad one more than once.
