I really dont think the guys are too old to make this movie. Seriously this would be a blockbuster hit!!!! Imagine ghostbusters now with awesome special effects!! Not that the originals were bad. They still hold up today.

But if you think about it. This movie could be made on a moderate budget and still rock because non of the originals stars pull insane amounts of dow for movies. Bill Murray makes the most which still isnt much. Just get them to work out, put on a little makeup and bam. Also look at everyones careers. This could really revitalize everyone and put them on top again. Seriously. What awesome movie have any of the originals made in the past 5-10 years that was a real money make. After Aliens Sigorney fell of map and took smaller rolls. Rick Morranis, who knows whatthe hell he's been doing. Really miss him. Bill Murray after Ground Hog Day has been in these lame flix which i dont get at all. Ernie Hudson was in Oz and dont know what he's doing now. Dan Akroyd still has it. Been in funny films such at 50 first dates, Evolution and more serious roles such as Pearl Harbor. Lastley Harold Ramis is still a genious when it comes to making films. Unlike most directors who over time lose what they had, Harold keeps it together and keeps bring out great movies. I bet he could lose the weight as well.
Ivan Rietman still have directing ability. I mean come on, this would be the perfecttime to make this movie yet Studios make crap like The grudge, and countless other horrible movies. This could be their Ace of Spades!

What are your thoughts

why not just recast everyone...

most of the current actors are old and overweight...

The Grudge made about $110 million USD domestically on a budget of less than $30 million.

I suspect the film company is happy with that.

I'd heard they were going to make Ghostbusters 3, but then decided to make Evolution instead.

Ok the grudge was a bad example but you get what i mean. Half these movies out there bomb or make little to no money. I bet they could make ghostbusters 3 for 60-75 mill tops and if it is well written and directed, the movie will easily double or triple that

also, itd probably have to be a pretty decent money draw and interest out there for moranis to come back. he hasnt done an on-screen role since 97, and last i heard, this is because he wanted to be more of a family man and slowly back away from the movie industry for a little while.

edit:
q. Are you doing any work now?
a. (rick) Well, I took a sabbatical. I walked away from shooting movies because I couldn?t handle the travel. I?m a single parent. I had young kids, and I found that keeping in touch with them from hotel rooms and airports wasn?t working for me. So I stopped. And I discovered after a couple years that I really didn?t miss making movies. So I started doing a little more writing, and I said no to pretty much everything except voice work. I?m a couple years away from both kids going to college, and, at that point, I might go back to something, but at this point, I don?t miss the on-camera work. I got very burnt out on the process.

Sony (who made Grudge) pumps out a ton of films that are done relatively cheaply to clear a modest box office return then they run to DVD a few months later.
This is their formula for business and so far is has been rather successful.

Ideas are funny things in Hollywood. The mix of personalities, money, history, and ego make the most bizarre things happen (or not happen as the case may be). I suspect that being on the inside of a studio doesn?t help as it is easy to become myopic for those various reasons. Thus, we are left with their decisions on what to produce and pass on.

The independent scene is coming along nicely though and most of the major studios have started up their own branches to specialize in these ?art? films.

But i can guarentee that every actor would sign back on board. I mean come on tell me one person who doesnt like ghostbusters. I read countless interviews with every actor and director that made that movie possible and everyone of them said it was thebest movie they ever worked on, and that they had so much fun making it.

Actually Bill Murray has done a lot better since those early films.Rushmore,Royal,Tennebaums,Lost in Translation, and the Life aquatic all got great reviews and almost got him an oscar.

Except you're all forgetting that Ghostbusters 2 sucked. Why would you expect #3 to be any better?

I love ghostbusters, it's one of my favorite films. But it's true the second one wasn't that great. But hell I'd watch a third one for sure.
