Usually, when something looks too good to be true, it is. So I'm skeptical. Anyone run spyware scanners after loading one of these free games? Find anything? Firewalls catch anything tying to call home?

I'd actually like to get Rayman. I like whacked out games like that. I'm just paranoid about spyware.

I don't believe so, but I'll double check. In PoP the ads are a little in your face, as a video plays when you enter a menu, or sometimes when a new level starts. Not in your face enough to be not worth it, but enough for me to think there isn't anything more going on here.

In the EULA, they do mention that they will phone home anonymous info like your IP address and how many times the ad was played.

Thanks, that's good to know.

I wonder if you could set your firewall to block all incoming/outgoing traffic for whatever game you're using. AFTER the initial setup, of course. :evil: I.E. Download, install and activate. THEN block all traffic. You've got your free game, they've got no ads in your game.

What do you guys think of that idea? Anyone try it?

The free game program has been cancelled.

Stupidly enough, the files are all still up to be downloaded in various places, however, the games can no longer be installed.

"All downloaded files which have not been activated are going to be made inactive through the ubi.com login. Previously, the ubi.com login would require a US country in order to install the game. Ubisoft will make the ubi.com login reject all entries into country. They hope to relaunch the program once we can add IP-blocking into our login process."

So what is really going on here? The game was not supposed to be playable if you were not in the US.

What does the above sentence mean? Maybe that not even a US login will now activate the game, Could be that previously, you could log-in as "US" even if you were not in the US.

This could mean that, in the future, they will check the country through your IP instead of relying on the country the user specifies. I can't believe some people were lying. :laugh:

They have to make sure that McDonald' USA doesn't pay for advertising that will benefit McDonald's Canada, for example.
