i have a kt7a raid with 30 gig maxtor as master on ide1 and cdrom on ide2 cd burner on 3 and i just formated a 40 gig and have it set up on ide4,i removed the 30gig to format th 40 then put it back.now it shows up as as 30gig as C and the partition as E then the 40gig
which is on ide4 as drive D and the partition as drive F,so when i try to boot to a ghost floppy it hangs right after dmi pool and it says starting pci dos and just hangs, when i remove the 40 gig from ide4 it works,is it because of the drive letter mix up?i just want to transfer everything to the new drive. thanks mike

Ok....

I don't know what the problem is with Ghost, it may or may not be because of your partitioning, but I've never had that problem so I can't really say.

As for your weird partitioning problem and drives being changed around... it's because of the way you partitioned your 40G. Your 30G is partitioned with a Primary partition and then an extended partition with a logical drive in the extened partition. From what you described, you partitioned your 40G the same way... and that is what caused your problems. With Win9x, all primary partitions (in order) get the first drive letters and then (in order) all logical drives in extended partitions. Your system is something like the following:

30 Gig

Primary Partition is Drive C:
Extended Partition is Drive E:

40 Gig

Primary Partition is Drive D:
Extended Partition is Drive F:

Notice that the two primaries got the first two drive letters and then the two extended got the rest. If you want you extended on your 30G back to being drive D, you are going to have to reformat your 40G and make the whole thing one large extended partition. You can break it into smaller logical drives if you want to... they will all behave and letter themselves as you would expect.

Good Luck,

Joe
