just had a thought. I'm using a wireless keyboard and mouse (both microsoft). Mum uses a microsoft wireless mouse. Even though she is on the other side of the house, is it possible that my keyboard is making a signal with her PC?

thats interesting, hiiiiiiighly unlikely though.. i think for this, she would have to be using the same keyboard on hers for this.. but worth a try i guess >) i think it is more likely a keylogger though, as you say it used to be ok... Would it cause a whole lot of trouble to re install windows? :/

Someone already asked about this wireless thing (wireless keyboard or mouse). I would put my money on that.

Try connecting wired components on your pc (keyboard and mouse) and see if the problem persists. Obviously, disconnect any of the wireless transmitters associated with the keyboard or mouse on your machine.

Or, to experiment on the other side, instead disconnect your Mum's wireless receiver for her mouse or keyboard.

yes I am and have now figured out that that was the problem - my mum has a wireless mouse and my keyboard signal seems to be the same as her mouse...strange this problem's only just occurred. Do you know how I change the signal on one of our machines to stop this happening?

I turned my pc off and the problem continued when I typed on my keyboard - so it is definitely a wireless keyboar/dmouse problem - i just need to wor kout how to change the signal now.

It may be that you'll have to a different brand. Even then there's no guarantees. These devices are probably licensed to operate in a certain band, and may not have discrete frequencies by brand. But, I could be wrong. You'd have to check your documentation to see if there is frequency selectability.
