Columbia Pictures clearly wants to make "Ghostbusters 3," since fans started craving a new film ever since the new 'GB3' video game got going and attracted Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson to voice the characters.

We've been hearing about the third installment for many months, but nothing concrete. Now, Ramis has revealed to Heeb magazine that "Ghostbusters 3" will begin filming during the summer and will hit theaters in 2011.

"Something's going to happen," he said. "Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We'll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future ... GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011."

I'm not sure what that Christopher Lloyd hint is supposed to mean. If someone can figure it out, let me know.

Hopefully it will be more like Star Trek and not so much like G.I. Joe.

Both were good movies. Hopefully Ghostbusters 3 will be more like Ghostbusters 1 and 2 and not like either of the two movies you named which are nothing like the Ghostbusters movies.

GB 3 will be shit. They will use modern graphics and it just wont work. They had better get the original three ghostbusters or i am not going to bother.

Have you seen any of the original cast lately? They're all old and/or fat. It only makes sense that the Ghostbusters universe saw expansion like what we have in the newest video game where you play the part of a new recruit. Just because we have newer ghost busters doesn't mean the old ones are going to be completely irrelevant, they could be in retirement and the new Ghostbusters have to go to them for help, etc...also, the black jumpsuits in X-Men were better than the ridiculous comic costumes that just wouldn't work in a film trying to portray some realism to help draw in the audience.

Original 3? Forget Winston / Ernie Hudson there? Racist much?

Rumor has it that this movie even has Rick Moranis coming out of retirement to reprise his role.

I think the Christopher Lloyd reference is to the fact that he played an older character in the BTTF movies, with a younger protege.

This can be good, since Akroyd wrote it, wonder if Sam will direct it? :hmm:

Ya know, you're absolutely right. I just hope they don't touch the ECTO-1

I was just noticing this afternoon how many ghost hunting shows there are on television these days. Now there's one about cops who moonlight as ghost detectives. Looks like Ghostbusters III is merely trying to capitalize on some bizarre fascination with ghosts that seems to be popular lately.

I thought the game was supposed to be the 3rd movie meaning a theatrical release would be part 4.

Then again, why not clean up GB1 and re-release it in theaters. I'd go see it!

I've noticed that too, on at least 3 cable channels as well. I guess people cant get enough of this stuff. I'm pessimistic about how GB3 would turn out considering how bad GB2 was..

I wonder if they'll wheel out Sigourney Weaver for this too. But I also think this is going to suck. Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd were comedic geniuses of their time. I'm not sure how it will work with regular Joe's.

They'll probably f*ck it up by putting in Nick Cannon and Shia LeBouf.
