Question "ghost" browser windows in Opera

Twice in the last couple of weeks or so I've been doing benign searches with Duck (one for furniture and the other having to do with something Windows OS related) and after clicking on a link in the search results, a window briefly appeared and then vanished. This action was really too quick to follow and hard to describe other than the second time I saw it, it seemed the browser window/tab was not fully maximized and it seemed to be traveling downward as it disappeared... but that could have been an illusion.

Of course my first thought was malware, but neither MBAM nor ESET seemed to care. Subsequent scans turned up nothing but I'm not comfortable yet. Any plausible explanation for this that doesn't involve exploits?

EDIT: someone suggested it might be a popup blocker in action, but this is fairly new behavior and I haven't changed or modified my blockers in a long time. Weird.
