ghost/acronis images and virtual machines

is it possible to take a ghost/acronis image and reload it in a virtual environment? has anyone come across something like that before?

the reason i ask, is i have an old image of a laptop i used back in 04, but the laptop is since dead and i was curious to see if it is possible to "resurrect" that install.
 
Sure, if it's Linux there's a good chance it'll just work, if it's a Windows install then it's going to be a lot of work since it most likely won't boot because of the different storage drivers.
