I love the interface with trueimage 8, but why is it "hands down...better" than ghost 9?

My reasons for that are as follows:

- Application feels more polished to me. In all instances that I have used it, it just works.

- Not such a resource hog - Boots fast from the emergency CD (Ghost 9 takes forever to load on any system that I have used it on or seen it used on, but as always YMMV) it does not need 256MB of RAM to boot emergency disk.

Hardware Support - It runs Linux at its core, so when booting off the emergency disk it is actually loading a Linux kernel and you get the inherent hardware support that comes with that. I have thrown some really old hardware at it and it never fails to autodetect it. Even things like PCMCIA nics have autodetected just fine. I never had the same reliable experience with Ghost 9

- Additional Filesystem Support - ReiserFS - Works great with Suse Linux, I was dual booting that for a while so I liked the fact I could use it to image that partition as well.

- Active Community support - They seem to fix bugs rather quickly and are usually pretty helpful in the forums if you have questions. I just feel that being a smaller company you will get a better support experience if you ever need it.

- Lately I have not been too impressed with the quality of some of the softwares comming from Symantec.

- Does not need the .NET Framework

I realize that most of them are "personal" reasons rather than technical ones.. but thats what did it for me. In the end you use the tool that works for the job and in my experiences it has been Acronis.

Underclocked,

I have restored just files from images as well as the whole image a number of times, without issue. I do remember a version of True Image about 2 builds back from the current one that had a problem with the image manager saying that an image was corrupted when it was not, but that was quickly fixed. Do you have any links for that material you read? I would like to check it out and see under what scenarios people are having problems. :) I have to check out that link for bootitng, so much software, so little time.. lol

Blain,

It does seem that is the only difference with the programs is removable media doesn't it. I would probably bet that the under pinnings of each program are the same, minus the ability to migrate to removable media. I think if that were the case then TI 8 would be the better choice just for that feature alone. It reminds me of how PowerQuest used to sell a product called Drive Copy when their product Drive Image had a similar function of disk cloning.

stimpyman, I hope the version you referenced is the one I was reading about. I know the bulk of complaints I read were on the Acronis support forum (on Wilders http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65 ), a few others here and there that I don't specifically recall.

BootIt NG will boot from a floppy and write to a DVD-RW. I'm thinkin' that's pretty cool all by its lonesome (yes, I still use floppies and hate to see them go).
