Acronis .. Hands down a better application.
I love the interface with trueimage 8, but why is it "hands down...better" than ghost 9?
My reasons for that are as follows:
- Application feels more polished to me. In all instances that I have used it, it just works.
- Not such a resource hog - Boots fast from the emergency CD (Ghost 9 takes forever to load on any system that I have use it on or seen it used on, but as always YMMV) it does not need 256MB of RAM to boot emergency disk.
Hardware Support - It runs Linux at its core, so when booting off the emergency disk it is actually loading a Linux kernel and you get the inherent hardware support that comes with that. I have thrown some really old hardware at it and it never fails to autodetect it. Even things like PCMCIA nics have autodetected just fine. I never had the same reliable experience with Ghost 9
- Additional Filesystem Support - ReiserFS - Works great with Suse Linux, I was dual booting that for a while so I liked the fact I could use it to image that partition as well.
- Active Community support - They seem to fix bugs rather quickly and are usually pretty helpful in the forums if you have questions. I just feel that being a smaller company you will get a better support experience if you ever need it.
- Lately I have not been too impressed with the quality of some of the softwares comming from Symantec.
- Does not need the .NET Framework
I realize that most of them are "personal" reasons rather than technical ones.. but thats what did it for me. In the end you use the tool that works for the job and in my experiences it has been Acronis.
FWIW
