Ghost 2003+ modern PC= toasted HD

I took Ghost 2003 and tried to use it to back up my laptop. It requires that you run the software on the master and slave computers.

My main computer (now known as a paperweight), an Athlon-64 3500 with XP home, ran Ghost 2003 with no problem. Start the program and it asks to reboot into Ghost-land. That was the last time I saw my C: drive.

Symmantec tech support, in the person of a few script readers with far-eastern names, took a few hours to eventually not quite tell me that Ghost 2003 is not compatible with 64-bit products (woulda been nice if the G2003 instructions said that) and that my data was gone, talk to my system vendor about that.

Symmantec destroyed my data and will do nothing to help recover it.

Be warned. Symmantec sucks dog ass.

I don't think it is any secret that Symantec sucks dog ass. However I reckon it is foolhardy to rely upon any Windows program for imaging/cloning when it is not necessary. Perhaps assuming such a program from four years ago was 64-bit compatible was likewise. I've been using the simple DOS Ghost executable for the better part of a decade sans issue. I doubt the data is "gone" and can prolly be recovered simply by accessing from another OS -either a different machine or even a boot disc. Indeed, it could be preserved by backing up to DVD with the Ghose exe on a boot floppy.

I use this product all the time, and have never had any issues. Sorry for your luck. Hope your data wasn't that important.
