Apparently its caused an uproar because its "racist". I personally don't find it offensive, but I guess since I'm not african american, my opinion would differ in that respect. Anyone have thoughts about this?

Ghettopoly Racist?

it is all part of the double standard of the imbecility of "political correctness".

white comedian telling black jokes=racist and unacceptable.
black comedian telling white jokes=not racist and acceptable.

miss black america pageant=non racist and somehow non segregationist.

now we all know if someone organized a miss white america pageant it would be instantly condemned as racist and segregationist and an evil thing.

the root of the problem is there are people who are just not fulfilled unless they can be offended at something, and have such a need to be offended so they can express thier indignation and outrage they actually go out of thier way to look for things to be offended about.

Holy cow, we agree
He must have taken his meds this morning

I may be wrong but I don't think this guy (Chang) makes any value judgements about his game or the stereotypes he characterizes. He basically takes the most unsavory, unredeemable characteristics of urban ghetto life, gives it a spritz of humor, and packaged it as a game. I see his product no different from Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, or Redd Foxx standup routine. Well OK, those guys were funnier but their presentations (much like Chang) make no pretense of representing how most or even many black people live. To get that impression you have to tune in the nightly news.

I think its funny as hell! Theres always going to be people and organizations that will whine and complain about "sensitive" issues like this. As far as the racial aspect....theres other versions being released (redneck) so I don't see this as being prejudicial to African Americans.
As others have stated...if Chris Rock created this game it would be accepted....but since a non-African American did...its very wrong!
As long as its creator doesn't single out any one specific ethnicity in his line of games, I don't see a problem at all!

How can it be racist if it doesn't target/single out a race or a group of races? It seems to me if black leaders insist on associating ghetto with black then they are causing the problem.

All this publicity is the best thing that could have happened to the creator of this game.

BTW, I also follow the general consensus. Tacky maybe, but thats about as bad as it gets.

Is it because blacks/hispanics are a minority, and America is all about equality? I don't know. Frankly, this doesn't seem like something that'll go away anytime soon. The creator is planning on releasing several more of these types of board games.

"On his Web site, Chang is unapologetic, and promises that more games -- Hoodopoly, Hiphopopoly, Thugopoly and Redneckopoly -- are coming soon...."

Admittedly, following up Ghettopoly with Hoodopoly, HipHopoly, and Thugopoly starts to look a little sketchy. You know . . . that whole pattern thing. Redneckopoly might be funny but that's his sole product that doesn't focus on urban (black) stereotypes. Curiously, the link to Hoodopoly has a character that's identical to his Ghettopoly. I was going to buy one of these games as a guilty pleasure . . . kinda like porn. But now I hazard to give this guy money. His interview on NPR seemed innocuous but I'm losing faith that he's satire for profit and more bigot satire for profit . . . the latter is not acceptable.

Maybe he won't make a Jewopoly, Arabopoly, Asianopoly, or FOBopoly b/c he figures there's no market for such projects. So what sense would there be in making 4 variations on the urban theme?

Now out of curiosity, ...how many of you that found this game NOT to be racist can say that yet say Rush was racist for his comment?

Beacuse I feel that neither is racist, and if you do feel Rush's comments were racist, and this is not why do you feel that way?

What is the difference?
