Hey guys this thread has been very informative, thanks!

I was wondering if anyone knows a UK site where i can get the Gelid Enhancement Kit Rev2 so i can use the cable tie method on my 290+G10.

Its much cheaper than a pack of 10 heatsinks and would probably be easier and safer than installing multiple heatsinks onto VRM1.

I am planning to OC to the 1200 mark and i was wondering will i even need any cooling on my memory chips or VRM2?

The core stays around 42-48c gaming and 54c max in bench, so im assuming those components wont need ooling like VRM1.

Cheers

Ben, installing multiple small heatsinks on the VRM doesn't work well, since there's not enough downward pressure on them to give good heat transfer.

You can buy the gelids from Ebay.

VRM2 doesnt need the cooling since it supplies the GDDR5 and doesn't get hot, not with a cool air from the G10 blowing down. GDDR5 itself doesn't need ramsinks, its a gimmick. In fact, naked GDDR5 on the 290 is better than the reference cooler, the heatplate gets hot and makes the VRM2/RAM hotter than naked.

Thought I would post a couple images of followup with zip-tying the gelid enhancement kit heatsink to the 290x. I didn't have to modify the fins or anything like Silverforce did, but I did choose to dremel off the feet that offset in different directions on each end, just so that I only had the sink where it touched the VRM modules. I used two heat resistant zip ties found on amazon (link in an earlier post) and am super happy with how it turned out, and looks with the G10. This is another good option for 290(x) ers. With the Fujipoly Ultra pad from frozencpu, I am SUPER happy with the VRM temps. Never really gets above 70 with 24/7 mining and occasional game playing.

That Kraken G10 is a good investment, it should be compatible with future cards since its got a few different slots for the screws. Likewise for the AIO coolers.

As for my own zip ties, still working 100% as new for temps on core and VRM. These types of mods are the best thing for GPUs, temps so low often leads to a significant power savings.
