Played the demo and was super unimpressed. I've bought every GH and RB since they came out on the 360 but this one will be skipped. Rehashed graphics, rehashed songs and they want to charge $60 for something that should have been a downloadable song pack for $20.

Yup. Pretty ridiculous considering Rock Band made it a breeze to transfer over all but 3 of the songs from the original to the second.

Activision is just milking the genre for every penny it's worth until it dies out out... which will probably be from them flooding the market with games.

Much better they take the other approach, Rock Band Lego, Rock Band Beatles and Rock Band Iron Maiden for $60 each is..... err...... not milking the genre as much.....?

Both companies are doing their part to drive the genre into the ground at this point.

Well it's not all rehash, there's the new masters and drum play and singing. The charts were redone as well with updated gameplay (the fancy sustained notes and the weird slide solos).

Seriously, what did you expect from a "greatest hits" version?

Rock Band Beatles is the way it is because of well, the Beatles and the restrictions they put on their song usage.

To be fair, they did update all of the songs to...

1. Be all masters
2. Include drum and mic charts
3. Include new GH features such as the staggered sustained notes and the goofy slide bar controls

That being said, yes, this is a blatant cash-in.

Rock Band Iron Maiden? Where did you hear that? All they did was release a 20 dollar track pack with all their best songs.

Sometimes it is up to the artists. It is pretty clear that the Beatles wouldn't let them just release a track pack and even if they could, a simple track pack wouldn't recoup the licensing fees. Beatles is going to attract people that never played Rock Band before so it is probably even better to release it on disk than requiring these old people to buy Rock band + the track packs. Yeah I know, some of you don't understand the business aspects of it.

Rock Band lego, well yeah I can't argue that one haha.

They wanted a Rock Band game with an "E" rating to expand their potential audience into the pre-teen and younger market.

Yeah that's kinda what I figured and I also realize that they need to compete with the Guitar Hero brand for shelf space. Fact is, they are behind GH in sales and are trying to build their brand and make it more recognizable. GH still sells on brand recognition alone for the most part.

I wish both companies would slow down a bit :)
I love GH and rock band. The original Guitar Hero is what brought me from the PC gaming world over to the console world. Unfortunately, I'm planning on skipping or maybe just renting the next few titles because they are just coming out too fast and furious.. I don't even completely finish with one and there are two more on the shelf waiting... and with all the DLC out there, I just don't have the irresistable urge to run out and buy the next one like I did when GH2 and GH3 came out...

I don't understand, though - why slow down? You don't need to go out and get them day 1 - why isn't more better? The quality hasn't taken a hit - at least, the basic mechanics are there.

I prefer the "game as a platform" approach of Rock Band and download new songs, but I don't have a problem with Guitar Hero releasing new retail titles. I won't buy them, but I'm fine with other people wanting to.

Because of market saturation, these games become $20 in a matter of months, anyway.

So long as these companies don't get exclusive rights to artists or make drastic changes to the hardware forcing you to buy new fake instruments every release, all is fine with me.

Precisely. Unless you absolutely cannot wait to get these games because you completely love the musicians in them, just wait a bit for the price to plummet. I think I bought GH:Aerosmith a few months back for like $10. I don't love Aerosmith, but I like them enough to pay $10 for their game on clearance.

The publishers are anticipating behavior like this, which is exactly why the prices drop so fast. They'll milk the die-hards first, and then move onto the rest of us. Nothing wrong with that, it's good business sense.
