Which are the diferences between the GTX570 and the GTX470, is it worth the money to upgrade from one to the other ?
Does the 570 consume more energy than the 470 ?
Thanks

The 570 is the better card all around. Faster, quieter, cooler, and consumes less power.

That being said, it's debatable whether or not it's worth it to upgrade to a 570 at this point. If you have EVGA step-up available by all means do it, but if you're looking at buying the 570 outright you might consider holding off until the next generation cards come out (rumored Jan for AMD, and probably Marchish for NVIDIA). There is a also a rumor of price drops coming for the GTX 580, which would indicate there might also be a price drop coming for the GTX 570.

more info on these rumors if you're curious:

The GTX 570 is similar to a GTX 480 in speed but quieter, cooler, and consumes less power.

I wouldn't recommend the upgrade because the price of a GTX 570 is double a GTX 470. However, the final decision is up to you. If you're not satifised with the GTX 470, then upgrade. If you already can play the games you want to play with the GTX 470, then stick with it.

come on now, it takes all of 2 seconds to find this info...

Come on now, half the stuff people waste hours upon hours talking about on AT video can be googled. It's the opinions and other stuff you can't google that make asking these kinds of questions worth while. Besides, the OP may not have considered that the next gen cards are supposedly imminent and the rumored price drops. Not everyone lives and breathes video cards.

Personally, I'd rather help someone asking questions before they buy something than the impulse buyer that doesn't do their research. If the OP had showed up with, "I just spent $350 on a GTX 570 to replace my GTX 470, did I goof up?" that would get on my nerves.

edit: and if you're going to mock someone by doing a google search for them, at least use http://lmgtfy.com/ :)

a 570 is about as fast as a 480 or so.

Yeah.... spend 350$ to get like ~8-10 fps more or something in a game.
Totally worth it :p

I think you should just ride out the 470, until the 6xx and 7xxx series are out. At that point, if you still want a 570, they ll probably be alot cheaper.

MOST of his post revolved around FACTS about the card not opinions. its ridiculous not to take a little bit of time and look this stuff up. he could have had his answers about how the card compares and power consumption before the first reply here.

My gtx570 owns like a boss at 1600x1200 in BF3 on ultra and it plays very good as well at 1920x1080..if you can sell the gtx470 then go with the gtx570.

If the gtx470 isn't holding you back in games i think its a wasted purchase going with a gtx570.

My evga gtx570 goes to msi oc levels of 786 core 2100 memory and no issues of any kind.

a used gtx470 is only worth about 150 bucks so selling that to upgrade to a gtx570 is not worth it. might as well wait at this point and get a 6 series in a few months.

Pretty happy with my gtx570 more then likely i won't be replacing this or the 1100t till haswell is here but a gtx470 at $150 i would have jumped on if i found one used if i could have found two of them at that price it would make a excellent sli config.

No way is it worth upgrading from a 470 to a 570 given the resale prices of 470s. My 470 did 760 mhz GPU overclock and 1800mhz memory, bringing it almost in-line with a stock GTX570. The GPU has the same amount of VRAM too. The 570 is better in some games like Dirt or Metro series by virtue of better FP16 performance and by actually being noticeably quieter under load. I realize that GTX570 can also be overclocked. Still, another reason not to buy GTX570 right now is the impeding launch of HD7900 series which will undoubtedly force NV to cut prices or at least put downward pricing pressure on the used market for GTX570/580 cards. GTX580 itself is rumored to undergo a price cut to $380 shortly.

Everyone here knows that the 570 uses MORE power than a gtx 470...............right?

well to be fair, its so close its almost identical, but even then its a clearly faster card running a much higher clock rate so its clearly a good deal more power efficient.

although you're right, it does draw less power overall by a few watts both idle and load outside of furmark, which doesn't really count as no game ever gets that close

I had a 470 and went to a 570. It wasnt a logical move, but I upgrade cards every year or so and felt the itch for a new card. In this case I'm glad I did it. The heat, noise of the older card (which did annoy me at times) is gone. This time I went with a non-ref cooler with the new card (gigabyte windforce) and the thing is dead silent. Performance-wise everything is smoother, I was able to play Metro2033 at slightly higher settings and loved it. So no regrets going from a 470 to 570. Again it may not be a logical upgrade, but I was happy with it.

I have a general rule when it comes to upgrading. That rule is at least a 50% performance increase or no upgrade. That means if I am getting 30 FPS, I won't upgrade to something that can't give me 45+.

Each person has their own rule. I just think it is such a waste to spend hundreds of dollars for a 25% performance gain which is typically not going to make a game go to playable from non-playable.

If I owned a 470, I would overclock it and wait for the next gen cards. I'd never even think of upgrading to a 570 unless you could somehow sell off your 470 for $200 and acquire a 570 for $300 or so. That is about the only way I'd consider a small incramental upgrade.
