I agree. Go to college and take some classes you are interested and you shall find what you would want to do. Get networked with people.

Not to kill your hopes...but you do know the average lifetime salary for someone without a college degree is 1 million dollars. That is 1 million dollars his/her whole life. And the average for someone with a college degree is 2-3 times that. So I say invest your time in college then things will work out so much easier.

Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, go back to school.

Where are you getting this from? What's the average age of retirement in the USA? I'm guessing around 55? So that leaves about 30 years to work inbetween graduation and retirement. Do the math. You're telling me the average college grad's salary is $100,000/year?

Ok, let's see here:
I have not furthered my education yet, and I don't plan to unless It benefits my career.

Fine, so let's look at what you have:
- No higher education
- No job experience
- Interested in computers, but only as a hobby. No qualifications.
- Interested in cars, but just learning.
- Slow learner
- Reluctant learner
- Poor interpersonal skills

Hmmm.

The jizz mopper job is sounding good.

Seriously though, it looks like the only job you can get right now is something paying minimum wage. Certainly not anything with room for advancement.

I highly suggest that if you don't want to go back to school, at least go to a *trade* school (aka occupational school aka adult school) and get some sort of formal training. You like cars, so you might go take some automobile mechanics courses. Maybe a welding course and an auto painting course too. Then you can be of at least some use in a garage.

Otherwise, you're unfortunately doomed to the realm of the "peon."

The only other recourse I could suggest for you would be to join the armed forces. The Air Force, Navy, Army all pay decently, offer training, and subsidize education. And as long as you're healthy, they'll take you. Hell, the Army will take you even if you have a heart condition and asthma. Just lie on your app.

the average age of retirement is around 65 in the US. 65 - 18 (age of HS graduation) = 47 years to work. 1,000,000/47 is about $21300/year.

edit:

if a person graduated college with a four year degree, that'd leave 43 years to work. 2,000,000/43 is about $46500/year and 3,000,000/43 is about 70000/year.

If you really don't want college

Just get a decent job where you can make at leat $10 to $15 and hour and potential for growth..

Since you like computers, maybe a sales job at Circuit City ... I've heard the commision is good, and you see a lot of middle aged guys doing it so
the money must be enough to provide for a family

Plus, you can work up to manager or whatever.. Store managers at big stores make more than most college grads .. usually at least $60,000 a year

People don't pay you to do things (well they do, but only minimum wage), they pay you to know things. The people making the most money are the ones that know things that no one else (or very few other people) know. You don't want to read anything. Ok, that means you're not going to learn much. If you're not going to learn a skill that most people can't do, you're not going to command a high salary. EVERYONE can dip french fries in hot oil, or put nails in a board where the plans say to. You know why the architecht makes a lot more than the guy nailing the house together? Cause he spent years learning the best way to put that house together. He doesn't do any physical labor, he's paid to know how it SHOULD be done.

He also spent 5 years in college, much of it reading.

I'm not saying that you have to go to college, but you do have to learn a useful skill if you want to make decent money.
