What motherboard is it on?

I remember back in the day, some (if not most or all) motherboards were programmed to share an IRQ between the AGP slot and PCI Slot1. That was the only reason I couldn't use my first PCI Slot on my old BX board, IRQ conflict and boom!

Maybe the OS is detecting the same shared IRQ and figuring the first PCI slot is where the video card is. My motherboard (A7N8X Deluxe) has an option to switch between AGP Video card and PCI Video Card. Not sure it that setting would have any (I seriously doubt it, but hey) sway on the OS detecting the video card correctly

Good luck

it is a MSI K7t266 Pro2-A, i checked the bios theres nothing mentioning the slot. Also , in windowsxp, it is not sharing an irq with anything :(

hey dude i had the same problem with my geforce 3 ti200

make sure your agp chipset drivers are installed (from your motherboards chipset makers website eg nvidia via sis etc)

install them and your gf4 will be seen as agp and you'll get a peformance boost

I had the same problem with my MSI card TI 4200 and an MSI mobo when I updated all the drivers and Bios on the MOBO from the website it showed it in the agp slot and with the correct Ram .

I haven't had to tangle with problems too often so it's embarassing how much I don't know, or have forgotten :(

I'm having a related problem. After an upgrade of my graphics drivers a while back some things have changed for the worse, and I've been unable to revert, even by fulling uninstalling all of my ati software, .inf files, registry keys, etc. (all as according to faq from rage3d) and reinstalling the card with the older drivers.

It still seems to get recognized as pci, and system info (98se) reports it as sharing irq 11 with "ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering". I've tried reinstalling my via 4 in 1's, and later updated them and reinstalled the card, but still the same. Also btw, my adjacent pci slots are empty. VGA is set to AGP in my BIOS as well. Do I simply reassign irq? Sorry to be so thick, suggestions welcome :)
