Hey gang, I've been working for about a week on trying to get my Abit KT7A v1.3 motherboard and my new GF4 to play nice together. I've read everyone's success (and horror) stories, and have been tweaking this that and the other with no luck at all, until last night. I went back into BIOS and selected "Load Optimized Settings" (or whatever it says exactly) just to clean things up after having made so many adjustments over the last few days. Then I looked things over and realized my CPU needed to be reset. I have a 1333mhz Athlon, but the Optimized Settings listed it at 1000mhz. So I changed it, or so I thought. Loaded WinXP, ran 3DMark2001, and for the first time it ran all the way through without crashing! I couldn't believe it, so I ran it again..and it worked! Then I tweaked AGP back up to 2x from 1x where I had left it in my quest for stability....rebooted...ran 3DMark....and it worked!
Ok, so come to find out, when I reset my CPU speed, I accidently set it at 1133mhz, instead of 1333mhz. I realized it this morning before I left for work, changed it quickly back to 1333mhz, and sure enough 3DMark crashes.
So....I'm trying to figure out exactly what this is an indication of? Is it purely just a power supply issue that I can correct by replacing my 300w Antec (180 TCO), or is this a board issue with voltage regulation? Right now in my box, I've disconnected the power to my CDRW, unplugged my case fans (case is open), and removed my sound card in the hopes of solving my problem, but until I accidently underclocked my CPU, none of this had helped.
Thoughts?
