GF3 Ti500 vs. GF4 Ti4200

I am in the process of building my new gaming rig. I'm kinda stuck on the video card area...please help w/ info and advice!

I am being offered a GF3 Ti500 card @ $200. While i would like to buy it, a friend has told me that the GF4 Ti4200 will be coming out sometime in the near future for around the same price. With more features and higher performance, I would like to wait for the GF4, but i would have to use my Voodoo3 2000 PCI card until the release of the GF4 🙁

Does anyone know if the performance and features are worth the wait, compared to buying a GF3 Ti500 now? ahh, so many decisions...help!

wait. I am. I am using a Rage 3d ATI card while waiting. If I can endure this POS, you certainly can with that Voodoo card 🙂

A gf3 TI500 @ $200 is a great buy right now, if you can't handle waiting another 2 or 3 months for gf4 TI4200 then buy it. You won't be dissapointed with the performance. I know, buy the ti500 now and sell it to me in 3 months for $100 when you can get a gf4 ti4200.

I'm not as big into 3D gaming on computer as I used to be, but I still keep up with news on computer hardware. While I've read that there is a significant performace boost in the GF4 line, in real practice either card will run fabulously. The only reason I'd wait around and buy a shiny new gold-plated video card 🙂D) is for the longevity aspect, but even the GF3Ti500 will last you quite a while. I'm still pleased with my GF2MX card which I've had since the MX line was first introduced. 😀

I would just wait. The TI4200 will be faster than the TI500 and last you alittle bit longer. Besides the prices of the TI500 have yet to drop below $199 which the TI4200 will retail at.

If your in a hurry and don't want to wait another 2 months or so then buy it now... your not going to be missing out on anythging terribly overwhelming. Sure it's faster, but the difference isnt too dramatic.
You'll still haver a damn fast card that is reasonably close to a GF4 T4200, and at $200 it's an excellent buy.

Keep in mind that Nvidia has yet to officially announce the Ti4200 chip. There have been news floating around the web that Nvidia may quietly withdraw the Ti4200 or simply delay the shipment to avoid overlapping the Geforce3 Ti500. So there may be no Ti4200 for a while....it depends on what ATi does in the near future.

The TI4200 is set to be released in April. The Geforce 3 line is being discontinued. ATI will be releasing 128mb versions of thier 8500LE and 8500. As well as a faster 8500XT 300mhz and the 8800 350mhz. In september we will see the ATI 9x00 cards with a 400mhz clock.
