My video card for some reason can ONLY work with detonator drivers version 41.09. Any other driver version will result in a hard crash about 5 seconds after booting into windows. So far, I've tried drivers version 30.82 (which I really want to revert to), 42.01 and 40.72. I have tried changing various video card settings in bios such as using AGP 2x, disabling fast writes, disabling ACPI, all to no avail. I am not overclocking. This is all on a AMD XP 1600+ EPOX 8k3AE (KT333) with 512mb 2700 Samsung ram, 2 maxtor hardrives, a dvdrom, and a liteon 48xcdrw powered by a 300W Antec PSU. I thought that my windows might have gotten corrupt so I just reformatted and right after installing the 4.45 hyperion 4 in 1's, the first thing I did was install the 30.82 drivers but after I rebooted, I ended up getting an Infinite Loop error. The only way to get my computer operational again was to go into safemode, uninstall the drivers, and then install the 41.09 detonator drivers again. Do you guys think it is a defective card? Why would my video card ONLY work with the 41.09's? All of this is seriously driving me crazy. Thanks in advance for any help.

Update:
After installing Avast antivirus software, I could finally change video card drivers again! However, avast was crashing unreal 2 and only unreal 2 so then I decided to uninstall avast and now I can't change video card drivers again but Unreal 2 doesn't crash =( This is soooo weird and frustrating. Does anyone know why my computer won't allow me to change detonator drivers without having this software installed on my computer?

Something in the antivirus software is probably hosign up your vid driver install. THe install program says to make sure you have your AV software disabled or turned off because updating the drivers can look to the software like suspicious activity. Something got messed up, reinstall winxp.

Always disable anti-virus program on install of Nvidia drivers, also make sure you remove your old drivers first via Control panel, btw try using driver cleaner 1.0 from here it will remove all the old registry driver files ,install guide is in the readme file once you unzip the program.

However, avast was crashing unreal 2 and only unreal 2 so then I decided to uninstall avast and now I can't change video card drivers again but Unreal 2 doesn't crash =( This is soooo weird and frustrating.

Anti-virus programs can cause games to crash, you should be able to disable the anti-virus program without uninstalling it.Have you tried a different anti-virus program like AVG which is free btw?
