i have the option of selling my gf3 ti500 to somebody and getting the gf4 ti4200 fo a measly £27 extra with my profits from the gf3. what would you do?
the gf4 ti 4200 with 128 meg is an option as well, but its a bit more and the memory clock is slower.

Hi I have Gainward Ti4200 128MB 4.0ns ram,, and I have overclocked it at full stability to 311core, from 250, and memory from 446 to 584mhz,, on higher memory till 590 I saw one artifact every 2 minutes, it is also usable at 590mhz memory, it is I think damn fast,, get it, it has also best 2d in industry of geforces,, clear as glass, and crisp. Gainward is supported for overclocking from manufacturer, and is mentioning its overclocking capabilities also in manual. I can play GTA3 on 1280x1024 very smooth and I have only for now Athlon 1333 C and 256MB SDRAM , all maxed. Best price performance ratio, and best 2d you cant get it.

:D If you can get such a good price for your GF3 then DO IT! GF3TI500 can still kick some ass, but GF4TI4200 is clearly MUCH better, esp for '2D' IQ and fast QxAA. As for 4200-128MB vs 4200-64MB, the 128MB are truly worth the extra cash, no doubt what so ever. Don't get me wrong, 4200-64MB are still very good cards, but 64MB is already limiting in some games, and will become VERY limiting very soon (esp when selling it on later). As for the RAM clocks, 4200-64 is at 250/500 while 4200-128 is at 250/444, but that only equates to a diff of about 3% perf gain (thanks partly to the 128MB).

;) When it comes to o/c'ing it is the TYPE of RAM implimented NOT the amount of RAM which is the deciding factor. 4.0ns (most common on 4200-128) reaches around 300/550 while 3.6ns (most common on 4200-64) reaches 300/620! To put it in perspective 4400=275/550 and 4600=300/650, a 4200 at the same speeds has identical perf. However, 4200-64 o/c'ed to 285/600 is slower than 4200-128 at DEFAULTS of 250/444 when more than 64MB of gfx RAM is needed, very evident in Commanche4. When a game needs more than 64MB, there speed is NO substitute for gfx RAM. It is very difficult to find out the type of RAM used on 4200 cards, obviously you want 3.6ns for a 300/620 o/c, but it is often VERY hard to find out. The only 4200 cards I KNOW which use faster RAM are the 'Suma 4200 Special Edition' and the 'Asus 4200 Deluxe', both of these use the longer design and BGA RAM from the 4400 cards (hence are more of 4300 than 4200) and come with higher standard clocks (250/550 vs 250/444) and achieve an o/c of 300/640 (Asus) and 300/700 (Suma), these are o/c's as good or better than a 4400 can achieve! In any case, basicly it is all in the chipset (exc '4300' cards), don't pay much extra for a particular brand as diffs are VERY small for GF4TI4200 cards, buy according to price, bundle and features (VIVO, CRT+CRT, CRT+DVI, DVI-to-CRT converter etc).
