I have the following system:

Duron 950
MSI KT7 Turbo2
512 ram
on-board audio
Geforce 2 GTS 32 meg card (generic)

I am getting terrible performance in Direct3D. 20 fps in unreal @ 640x480 16
bit! and the other game I play is MotocrossMadness2 and it is unplayable at
any resolution.

What I have done is upgrade to the latest det. driver (23.11 I think) and
checked all of my agp settings, upgraded to the latest bios on the MB and
nothing helps. I downloaded 3DMark 2001 and ran the benchmark and got a
score of around 3000 and the fps on the D3D stuff was usually in the 50-60
range so, the card seems to be fine.

sooooo. Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Thanks

Go get the latest driver from Guru3D . It should be 27.70 or something like that. You might want to use their "Detonator Destroyer" first to clean up the old stuff. I have a Geforce 2 GTS also, and whenever I tried to update the driver, Windows would tell me I'm installing the new stuff, but when I looked at the path it was installing from, it was my old stuff. Good luck. Also, to increase preformance, make sure you're using full graphics accel, and your drives are DMA enabled.

Thanks for the info. It looks like it is not the GF2 card after all. I put a GF3 into the same computer and I got the same results and took the GF2 and put it in the computer that the GF3 normally is in and it worked flawlessly. I am not sure if the drive is DMA-enabled so, I will check that. I am slo wondering if there is an AGP driver for this MB.

Thanks

How do I know if it's running in pci mode? BTW Unreal Tourney runs very well in OpenGL just not in Direct3D.

Thanks

The easiest way is to load dxdiag and check to see if the AGP texturing is enabled. If it isn't then the card is running in PCI mode.

BTW Unreal Tourney runs very well in OpenGL just not in Direct3D.

If the card is running in PCI mode OpenGL still runs pretty good compared to Direct3D but it's still not even close to running as fast as it could when the card is in AGP mode.

Problem solved! I actually went back to the 12.90 drivers and it flows real well now.

Thanks for the help!
