GF2 Pro: What is a good Frame Rate in UT to aim for?

TeMpT

New to the 3D gaming scene and finally got my box going and installed UT. Now that it is running, what kind of frame rate should I have looking to hit? I mean ballpark figures. I am getting around 40'ish (both OpenGL and D3d) during the game play (w/ about 12 bots ;P). Is that good? Eventually I'll be moving to 1024x768 (when I get a better monitor).

My Sys:
Win98SE
DirectX8
Hercules GeForce II GTS 64M Pro
Athlon 1G@1.13G
256M Crucial
UT @ 800x600/32bit/high/high/high...

Just trying to see if I should be aiming higher...

Hmmm, those numbers are in full combat right? meaning things flying all around the place.

Seems a bit low to me, but im a dumbass. 🙂

Wait, so right now it's at 800x600? You should be getting way higher than that. I don't know about constant battle/explosions every second fps, but in a ~20 online game, I get around 50-55 fps at 1600x1200 32 bit on my Radeon and Athlon 950, and that's slower than your system.

I assume none of you are o/c'ing your video card...

something isn't right...
then again, all my GeForce settings are at default, maybe I should putz with that.

Any recommendations?

TeMpT,

You need to:
1. go to Epic website and download the NEWEST renderers
2. load the high resolution textures from the 2nd UT disk
3. update your UT.ini file to take advantage of the above.

If you do those things, then you will be in UT heaven with great FPS at any resolution.

If you need more details, the do a search in this forum about: "UT in D3D or OpenGL". We just had a long thread on how to do it.

Thanks for the help. It turns out I was using the D3D beta renderer (which sucks). Tried other renderers (OpenGL beta/Loki/even original D3D renderer) and gotten much better ratings (~100fps).

not too shabby.

Now to start tweaking...btw..someone mentioned that UT is very picky about o/c. Anyone experienced this first hand?

cmaMath:

Do you have a link to the latest UT renderers? I can't seem to find them on the Epic or any other website. . .

Thanks CM! I was running with Loki's recommended settings before, but I followed the directions in the post and now it looks and runs better.
