My profs clearly informs me of the penalties for late submission. Their systems vary, though. One prof deducts half a letter grade per weekday. My other prof is a lot lineant and deducts one percent per day but counts weekends as well. :)

I have a friend who missed almost every single first year philosophy class, brought in faked doctor's notes to all of his due dates for papers, got 2 of them extended and one omitted from his final mark, then had his professor chase him out of the final (from which he stole a copy to give to another friend writing the same test in 3 weeks) to tell him that he was gonna go easy on him on the final 'cause he was "sick" all year long.

That is very good to know.

Yep, most professors want to be fair, but you have to throw them a bone. A few professors are pricks and will not cut you any slack at all, my accounting professor wouldn't deal at all unless I had been hospitalized or there was a death in the family, and I would have to prove it. But most aren't like that.

Then there are the semi-psycho ones who do things like have a policy that they'll give 1 late extension per term* and the person who uses it will be announced to the class. Thus, that person would then be under the scrutiny of all the other students and, in theory, folks would really think twice about asking for an extension because 'does my excuse' rank higher than other folks?

*Possibly more if there was some serious trajedy, but, otherwise only 1.

I was a stress junkie in school...

If it wasn't due in less than 24 hours, then I didn't touch it.

Somehow I actually miss that stress... scary

If she wrote her paper clearly and get all her points across, even if it take only 2 page, then just turn it in as it. If the professor is smart, he would grade her on quality and not quantity. I hate assignments that required xx numbers of page.
