Getting worried about my job.

A while back I posted about my company being sold to another. While there hasn't been any really official announcements of any kind, I've been hearing things from other people about things going on in the background that are starting to worry me.

I have to go through orientation next Wednesday so hopefully some of my fears will be allayed then.

I'm going to be screwed if they let me go though. I don't know what I'll do.

backup plans are always handy, even though you hope you'll never need to use them. I would work on one now, just in case.

A company being bought out is definitely NOT a casket for your job. It can be cause to give concern, but a company buys another because the first is doing well or they see some investment opportunity and part of it doing well could be its employees.

you're probably right. i guess its just that the "lower" employees are not being informed about anything. I guess its just not knowing a damn thing about whats happening.

If you get laid off then go find yourself a cozy job in your local county school district offices. Great benefits, minimal work hours, tons of vacation and sick time, descent money, an actual pension plan (not just a 401K), and a Union which will ensure that you never have to worry about job security again. I'm not sure what your expertise is, but I know that in my county they pay tech guys quite well.

You can't beat it.

Also, do not forget to file for unemployment if it does happen. It's easy via the web and worth it.

Ugh...buyouts are always bad news for the employees of the "buy-ee", but usually mean promotions for the employees of the "buy-er". I've lived through two of these situations before by looking for openings in the buyer's company and applying right away.

student loans generally are deferred until 6 months after you graduate.

how do student loans work if you're only taking like 2 classes a semester? do you take a loan for the projected cost of your degree or what?

you take a loan for the classes you are taking...often the school will have a set amount they'll authorize you to borrow based on the courses you're taking.
