All 4 of my teeth are impacted so the have to cut up my gums to remove them. I'm geting sedated (twilight sleep).

The doctor was telling me about the chance they could damage a nerve and I would lose all feeling in my mouth or that my top teeth are close to the sinus cavity and there could be a hole they would have to close up. I'm kinda nervous and scared.

Share your wisdom teeth removal experiences, I wanna hear what the whole thing is like from people that have gone through it.

Bring on the Percocet!

I had some swelling, but nothing bad. I was eating real food three days later, albeit very carefully. My only problem was the Lortab they gave me for pain: it made me sick to my stomach. I switched to ibuprofen, OTC, and all was right with the world.

Doctors have to give you the worst case scenario, just to cover his ass. Otherwise, you might end up to be like the lady that sued because there wasn't a sign on the railroad tracks, warning of trains coming thru.

Did all four at once, similar to you. No complications. All at once is the only way to fly, IMHO.

I did all four at once (two impacted) with nothing but novocain. The same day pain wasn't fun but I lived through it, and the pain after that wasn't so bad.

the b/f has two that are impacted and last week the dentist said to leave them. They told him that at his age... if they havent bothered him until until now... chances are they wont... if they start to bother him down the road, they will pull them.... but for now, leave them be.

I never got my wisdom teeth pulled.

had to get all 4 out.

the ride home was fine, towards the end i could sorta feel the anesthesia wear off a little. When got home I told my dad to please go get the vicodin prescription filled asap.

I was on couch, my mom (doctor- pediatrition in infectious diseases for last 30yrs or so) was with me, I had some icepacks/towels...i wasn't excessively bleeding by any means, but if i'd spit, it'd be bloody...i could bearly spit though b/c my lips/jaw was numb.

anyway, within a couple min all of a sudden the pain hit me like a ton of bricks. I'd never felt so much pain in my life and was literally screaming. My mom was freaking out b/c I started to turn blue/hyperventilate, no matter how much i tried to control my breathing and calm down. Luckily she had some percocet from previous medication..i took that and within a min or two I was fine and I didn't have any problems whatsoever after that initial "trauma." Out of the 20 vicodin given, I only used 1.5 the rest of the week and pretty much had no excess blood by the next day. I iced my jaw a lot and that helped with swelling.

Note, even if one side hurts more, don't ice it more than the other, b/c later on that side you didn't ice as much will hurt/swell more.

I think it depends on your weight as well...I had another friend who's not a skinny chump basically, he had all four out and was fine the same/next day.

I had another friend who plays 3-4 sports and has just about no body fat, he was f'in miserable for two + weeks.

best time of my life, I wish I can do it again.

but seriously, it's no big deal, I had all 4 out, didn't even take vicodin because it didn't hurt at all. Just go in there and take it like a man, you'll be all better in a week.

I had mine done around 1999. All 4 at once...No complications.

I will note that my nurse was so smoking hot. She looked like a much younger version of that spanish chick on CSI: Miami. She was wearing tight white pants and she wasnt wearing panties.

NOTICE: While under drugs...don't tell your wife that your nurse is not wearing panties and how hot she was when you get home. Yeah that was probably a bad idea..and i don't remember saying it.

Only the upper 2 to remove, lowers never came in. Knocked out, teeth removed and no pain or swelling.

Visited the dental office the next day and they didn't really believe that I had had my wisdom teeth removed.

Into work the day after that.

I had my lower two pulled just last Thursday.

I was up and doing stuff later that day, and back to normal by the next day. Never even took my pain medication. It wasn't needed. However, we have a damned SUPERB oral surgeon here, and I chalk alot of it up to his skill and knowledge. I had no swelling, no pain, no nausea.

And yes, both of them were fully impacted.

Anyway, mine were easy street - I was back in the gym pumping iron two days later - but you probably won't be nearly as lucky.

Enjoy :D

had all of mine yanked out a couple of yrs ago. It really isnt too bad. I found the fact I couldnt eat solid food for awhile was more of an annoyance than the actual pain.

Thats not to say it didnt hurt. Cause it hurt like hell....vicodin will be your friend.

got all 4 taken out a year and a half ago. local anesthetic only. the bottoms were deeply impacted and doctor gave me the same warning as you. had to cut the bottom ones into quarters and pull out the roots individually. top ones came out easy. iced my jaws for a few days and took a couple vicodin. it wasn't too bad. the worst part was the taste of burnt flesh and bone when he was cutting and bleeding.

I could've done mine under local only, but I had em put me out anyway. Didn't feel like dealing with the tastes you described. They had to chop mine up too - they actually cut em in half longways for me tho.

I think the weirdest part is the amnesia you get from the anaesthetic. According to my dearest mother, I left the dental office and went to the car under my own power, and she drove the 30 minutes and dropped me off at my home, plopping me on the couch.

Supposedly I was conscious, talking, acting completely normal during all of this. I recall none of it.

Also, they said I was conscious and acting normally for about 5 minutes after my mother left the operating room, but the last thing I remember is her exit.

Funky.

Yep. I was knocked out...operation only took 30 or so minutes apparently. The last thing I remember is the constant beeping of my heart through the machine..then I woke up sitting down..not in pain, just groggy. I stopped bleeding after..oh..3-4 hours max?

Hardly any swelling at all.

The doctor told me the same thing beforehand. It all went fine, except that I woke up crying and I couldn't stop for a few minutes.

As far as post recoverery and general all around pain, make sure you drink plenty of water so you are hydrated up until you have the no eat or drink rule for the anesthesia. The healing will go quicker and be less painful. Also, after the op make sure you eat something as soon as your docotor allows. Tomato Soup made w/ milk would my personal fav.

Also dont be suprised on how much gauze they crammed into your mouth.

Pulling wisdom teeth is the biggest scam in the world. Half of the time there is nothing wrong with them but they pull them out anyway.
