This XPHome system boots normal until I get to the "Log on to Windows" screen, then I get dark blue(not sky blue) screen with the log on box with my user name and no password, then and error message that "Windows could not log me on because my User name and domain are incorrect." I OK it and the log on screen and it boots on up. Doesn't keep it from working but is a pain.

Any ideas guys??

Did you ever join or be part of a domain?

Look in the 3rd, I think, box after the Cntl-Alt-Del key press. Where you log in with user name, then password, and then Domain is under that. You might have to press the more "options" button.

Sorry guys, I have been looking for "Domain" and out of pocket too. You know how wifes are when they haven't been out to eat all week!!! Pheonix what is "SP"?? Service provider?? If so, it is bellsouth.net and I do have a wireless network for another computer my wife uses in the house, if that makes a difference.

I appreciate the help guys,

SP= Service Pack

What errors do you see in the event logs, they are under control panel, admin tools. Get a list together and goto eventid.net and search for them.

Let us know,

Bob, I think I have it pinned down to--Source--Application Error--Event ID 1000---but Event ID net didn't have anything concrete that I could get to, without joining. I will get back to it tomorrow--up too many hours now. Check you tomorrow if you are around.

Thanks,
Smoke

Medic Bob, sorry to be so long getting back but too many hours must have been a little too much--been sick for two days. I don't think I want to join the "Event ID net" just to solve that one problem. Do you have any other suggestions?

No other suggestions other then trying to ID the offending application and removing it, if possible.

I wouldn't join EventID either, but it is a very nice resource.

Plus this serves as a free bump. :p

Thanks Bob, I think I will just leave it alone. With my luck, I would spend a week or more, "fixin what I fixed".

Couldn't it be another network service, like netware, causing the problem? Maybe he accidentally installed another service, that requires an additional logon?

Glendor, I have kinda waited around thinking someone else would "chime" in about your comment. I have no indication of another service and don't recall ever sighing up for one but it could be possible I am sure. Thanks for bringing up that possibility. I will keep looking and something will turn up when least expected, I guess.
