Getting used to Android after iOS, swipe to delete emails/msgs

Hi all,

As the title suggests I recently made a jump to Android with the new SGS2. Overall I'm quite pleased with the experience thus far, and enjoy how open the OS is.

However there's a few minor things that I really miss from iOS. And one of them is the ability to swipe left-to-right to delete emails (action that shows the delete button in most iOS UI's).

Is there any way to get this similar functionality on android? If perhaps not globally, then maybe an email client that has this feature? That's where I miss it the most...

Thanks in advance!

or, in gmail, go into settings > your account and check the box for "batch operations"

then, you can check one or more messages and a delete button, among others, will pop up at the bottom of the list.

Was gonna say this. It's a lot faster than the iOS swipe if you want to delete multiple emails.

try out the K-9 Email ap

you can use it with multiple email acnts or just one,m it allows you to swipe to the right to mark an email and at the same time pops up a context menu with a trash icon, you can swipe many emails and then delete them all at once

Yeah I used K-9 also and it is super easy to check off multiple items and delete them all at once. Only downside of K-9 is it's exchange support is semi lacking.

I would say it's entirely broken from my experience. The exchange settings that work just dandy in the regular corporate email app won't work in K9. I stopped messing with it and just uninstalled.

Didn't know it had exchange issues as its not something i use. it works well if you don't need that feature IMO

I like the WP7 method, individual emails obviously have the delete button at the bottom, in the list though if you just tap to the left of one it brings up the checkboxes (there is also a button to do the same) and checkcheckcheck delete. Very slick and efficient.

Yeah that's the same as most. K9 and stock email for android do the same thing. It is very easy to delete items, especially multiple emails.

And it is ass-ugly. Great app tho. I use it on all my android gadgets, even my transformer because honeycomb email app cannot bulk delete the trash.

Tap-and-hold in Android typically brings up a context-specific menu like that.

Yeah I noticed that and that could work just as well as the iOS' delete except for the fact that when you delete 1 msg you get stuck w/ a loading screen and the UI is not responsive for a few seconds and then jumps when the msg is delete. Where as in iOS your delete instantly clears the msg out of the list, and performs a server delete asynchronously in the background. As the result of this the UI is quite responsive.

Ehh.. I'm loving my SGS2 but this single feature or lack of a decent email client (just as good as iPhone's) is almost a deal breaker, I'm starting to have 2nd thoughts..

OP, go do this.

i made the assumption that he was using gmail, but now I don't see it anywhere in the OP...so this may not work.

but OP, if you aren't using gmail....why not? set up a gmail account and configure it to get the mail from your other "real" accounts via imap.

Sorry, should have mentioned that I'm using Exchange, so no way to re-use Gmail App.

I've taken a look at other email options, but most exchange client support exchange only (Moxier/Touchdown). Ideally there would be a unified email client for all accounts as with iOS.

So far the best thing I've found that gives most flexibility (although doesn't match iOS) was Keiten Mail (from K-9 Mail developer) similar client but prettier UI and a few more options. Also found InoMail which is almost iOS mail clone in terms of UI but does not have Exchange support.

Really hoping Ice Cream Sandwich will bring some improvements to the native email app.

I use the built in "Email" app on my original Droid for Exchange email. At my inbox I have a checkbox next to each message. I can check one or as many as I want and then click delete on the bottom and it deletes them all.

As does the SGSII email client I thought... I removed mine so I can't double check.
