Getting up in the morning?

2 alarm clocks - nope
putting alarm clocks across the room - nope

Sometimes I even sleep ALL the way through both alarm clocks (that's 3 hours of ringing). What else is there? Rig a bucket of water to dump on me?

And this has been a problem for me for my entire life, so it's obviously some sort of fundamental problem, not just a passing phase or whatever.

go to military boot camp, it solves that problem (did for me anyway)

my first night at boot camp, they got us into the rack about 1-2 am

about 4 am our CC's came into the barracks, threw a couple of those large metal trash cans across the room and started screaming orders at us, that woke us up just fine

I have a very similar problem - i HATE waking up in the morning. Two alarms, no. And they are across the room.

Hook up the alarm clocks to shock you when they go off.

I've got two that I switch out every once in a while (I get used to the ring of one so I start using the other for a while), and my cellphone. On Sundays my roommate would call me to wake me up because of my screwy schedule.

That is definitely part of it, but plenty of other people can wake up fine after 4 hours of sleep.

(And I'm assuming you meant, "maybe you should stop staying up so late")

I feel your pain. It's exactly the same way for me regardless of how much sleep I get. I've depended on daily wake up calls for years now with the ringer on max.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Do what I do. Either have someone else wake you up with a violent shaking, or put a phone next to your ear and have someone call you.

other people do not sleep through 10 alarm clocks like you do, so just go to sleep early.

and 4 hours is definitely not enough.

Try to look into how deaf people get up in the morning ( i have no idea) but it seems like auditory cues wont do the trick for you.

Yep. I don't have any problem waking up after 3-4 hours. The only time I ever use an alarm clock is when I'm catching an early-morning flight and, for some reason, I always wake up about five or ten minutes before the alarm is set to go off.

The hardest-to-wake-up guy I ever knew was a dental student my mother picked up at the airport one day (she just happened to meet him there, took a liking to him, I guess, and he moved in). He had to wake up in the morning to get to dental college, so he'd go to bed with an alarm clock set to "radio" with the volume all the way up placed on the bed next to his ear. In the morning, this would go off, which would wake up my sister in the room down the hallway and she would walk over to his bed and shake him until he finally woke up. They went through this ritual every morning during the week.

start your own business and wake up whenever the hell you want. i used to get down on myself because i hated getting up early in the morning to go to work. also i hit a "slump" every afternoon where i literally passed out for a bit. so, i embraced the fact that that was who i was, i started my own biz, and now i sleep when i want for as long as i want and my waking hours are better than i thought humanly possible. since i've done that, i actually sleep less and am not as tired during the day. but the option is there if i need to sleep too.

I've actually thought a lot about starting my own business someday, and have been pretty much planning on it for a while. Just not sure what I want to do yet. What do you do?

Currently with school AND work, *something* or another will require me to wake up at X time in the morning, regardless of how I schedule things. I go to school in the morning and work in the evenings, so it just happens to be school -- but if I took night classes instead and worked in the morning, or worked 3rd shift, or whatever -- I'd always be waking up late for something or another.

just start going to be earlier and earlier, until you find out how much sleep you need at night.

your inability to wake up is probably your body's way to telling you that you're not getting enough sleep.

what time do you go to sleep and what time do you wake up every morning?

Get on a regular sleep schedule. If I miss an alarm, I'll usually wake up 20 minutes afterward; that is if I don't wake up exactly 1 minute before my alarm goes off. I've not understood that yet...

It has more to do with your body being on a schedule than with how many hours you slept. Get into a rythym.

I pretty much know how much sleep I need, about 8 hours. 7 is ok, 6 is eh, 5 is crappy, 4 is bad, 3 is awful, 2 is horrid.

I don't have any set sleeping schedule. I go to bed anywhere from 2am to 7am and get up anywhere from 7:30am on T/Th to 4pm when I sleep in. I usually get anywhere from 2 to 5 hours on school days.

I guess you guys are on the right track.. I need to focus on getting to sleep rather than waking up, since the latter depends on the former.

If you don't have any kind of regular schedule, that's most likely the problem.
