Cargo shorts, whether they are camo, olive, or tan/brown, never go out of style. They are the quintessential "casual guy wear" of summertime. Throw a t shirt on and work on your car. Toss on a polo and go out for a few drinks. Take your shirt off and go to the beach. They go anywhere/everywhere.
Completely disagree with ya here; nobody has been laid in cargo shorts since 'nam.
.
Must have been lonely for you over there in that far away jungle......![]()

OP, if you're looking to improve your look, first switch to above knee khaki shorts. (Regardless of just my opinion)
For old dudes - Plain front (not pleated) shorts - khaki with a bright-colored shirt, or plaid/check shorts with a plain/pale shirt.
And slippers.

I completely agree. They're like the pants with the legs that zip off. Why do you need 17 pockets?
Im 43 and still wear jeans, tshirt and sneakers (actually waterproof hikers that look like sneakers) on a daily basis. I have no plans on changing and could care less if it looks juvenile...if its what you like then wear it.
The point is that once you're 40, you should have enough common sense to know that you're not spontaneously going to find yourself in a pick-up basketball game, or a track meet.
If you want to be comfortable...
Slippers!
....bball shorts and sneaks...
Know how I know you look like a d-bag?
I do the same when driving around town on my day offs.

Sure was...I still got that jungle beaver fever.
'cause khaki shorts with no cargo pockets seem a little formal. They're basically short slacks. The non-pocketed non-slack style all seem to be in the young men's section. I feel progressively odder about buying stuff from that area.
